The Influence Of The Gospels Of Matthew And Luke On Carl F. H. Henry’S Kingdom Theology, Michael Cunningham
The Influence Of The Gospels Of Matthew And Luke On Carl F. H. Henry’S Kingdom Theology, Michael Cunningham
Eleutheria: John W. Rawlings School of Divinity Academic Journal
Carl F.H. Henry was a leading theologian of American Evangelicalism and prominent voice in the Neo Evangelical movement of the twentieth century. His prominent book The Uneasy Conscience of Modern Fundamentalism (1947) persuaded conservative evangelicals to avoid the separatist inclinations of fundamentalism. He, instead, championed a biblically based brand of cultural engagement rooted in the kingdom theology found in the Gospels. Harnessing the “Already, but not yet” view of the kingdom popularized by Herman Ridderbos and George Ladd, Henry effectively engaged culture during a tumultuous twentieth century. This paper will begin with a survey of the historical legacy of Carl …

The Dwell Bible Listening App As An Effective Tool To Habituate Daily Bible Engagement In The Local Congregation, Daniel Russell Prugh
Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project
Prugh, Daniel R. “The Dwell Bible Listening App as an Effective Tool to Habituate Daily Bible Engagement in the Local Congregation.” Doctor of Ministry. Major Applied Project, Concordia Seminary, 2023. "115" pp.
Congregational members desire to engage the Bible daily. However, oftentimes there are barriers to this goal. One of the most important barriers is that people do not regularly read. This is problematic if the church desires for people to read the Bible daily. In addition, people encounter a tsunami of information every day, that makes it hard to prioritize regular engagement with the Bible. However, the church can …

Jesus, The Last Scapegoat: A Chinese-Indonesian Christian Theological Imagination For Peacebuilding And Reconciliation, Hans Harmakaputra
Jesus, The Last Scapegoat: A Chinese-Indonesian Christian Theological Imagination For Peacebuilding And Reconciliation, Hans Harmakaputra
The Journal of Social Encounters
After enduring the systematic oppression under Suharto’s three-decade regime (1967-1998) in Indonesia through discriminatory policies, Chinese-Indonesians suffered an enormous loss in the 1998 riots that signified the end of Suharto’s regime. Many Chinese-Indonesians were killed, raped, and displaced. A few years later, the new government abolished the discriminatory policies against Chinese-Indonesians, and they started to enjoy equality as citizens of Indonesia. However, negativities that resulted from the traumatic experiences cannot be diminished easily. This essay suggests a Chinese-Indonesian Christian theological imagination of Jesus’ crucifixion that aims to deal with communal trauma and contribute to the peacebuilding and reconciliation efforts. This …

Worldviews: Concepts Or Narratives? An Integrative Definition To Assess Their Controlling Effect In The Biblical And Atheistic Evolutionary Models, Flavio Prestes Iii
Andrews University Seminary Studies (AUSS)
What are worldviews? What are their characteristics? How do they work? This article offers tentative responses to these questions through the integration of concepts and narratives. Using the biblical and the atheistic evolutionary narratives as case studies, it also seeks to show how worldviews have a significant, though not absolute, controlling effect on one’s perception of reality.

A Biblical Approach For An Inner Healing Discipleship Cycle For Migrants And Refugees, Diói Cruz
A Biblical Approach For An Inner Healing Discipleship Cycle For Migrants And Refugees, Diói Cruz
Journal of Adventist Mission Studies
"Within the Adventist Church many immigrants struggle silently with the consequences of emotional pain, fear, failure, anxiety, stress, inadequate parenting, rejection, and abusive relationships. Many try to cope with the ongoing results of involvement in the occult or other false religions, and the effects of physical illness, accidents, and trauma continue to impact their lives. It is God’s desire that we prosper and be in good health (3 John 2) because he created us in his image. “For in Him we live, and move, and have our being” (Acts 17:28). Therefore, if we are to reflect his image we must …

Listening To The Us Hispanic/Latino (Latina) Sermon Listener, Danny Román-Gloro
The Asbury Journal
This paper presents the findings of an ethnographic study on preaching within the US Hispanic/Latino (Latina) community.1 The study explored the preaching event from the experience of the listener. The US Hispanic/ Latino (Latina) sermon listener represents a unique group of individuals that have a particular experience of preaching, which can provide insights on how preaching constitutes a vehicle for shaping and re-shaping a religious and social community. Through the use of in-depth interviews of a diverse group of US Hispanic/Latino (Latina) sermon listeners a series of characteristics of a good sermon were identified.

Inductive Bible Study: Contextual Appropriation In Northeast India, M. Sashi Jamir
Inductive Bible Study: Contextual Appropriation In Northeast India, M. Sashi Jamir
The Asbury Journal
M. Sashi Jamir examines the application of Inductive Bible Study to the tribal communities of Northeast India. This postcolonial situation has some positives such as a context with a higher degree of education, but it has also lead to a prominence of Western philosophy over traditional ways of understanding, which need to be reclaimed. The reality that larger national forces in India often overshadow tribal communities also poses potential problems that prevent the local theological voice from being heard.

Pride And Prejudice: Colonialism And Post-Colonialism In The Philippine Chinese Context: How Ibs Can Be A Liberating Methodology To Find The Truth To Be Set Free, Juliet Lee Uytanlet
The Asbury Journal
This paper aims to present the importance of disentangling the Philippine Chinese from a colonial mindset before they can truly be disentangled from their wrong beliefs and practices. It is crucial to first trace back the relationship of colonialism and the colonial mindset among the Philippine Chinese to understand how this affects their present attitude toward Scripture and Christian mission before we can introduce the Inductive Bible Study method and its benefits to Christian churches.
Of Icons And Ibs: Contextualizing The Inductive Bible Study Method Among Eastern Orthodox Background Believers, Curtis Elliott
Of Icons And Ibs: Contextualizing The Inductive Bible Study Method Among Eastern Orthodox Background Believers, Curtis Elliott
The Asbury Journal
Curtis Elliott explores the application of Inductive Bible Study to an Eastern Orthodox context, where the Bible is approached more from a position of mystery and tradition. He presents a number of problems a typical Protestant approach of this method can cause, and proposes a postmodern narrative-weave approach to Bible study that could potentially alleviate some of these problems.
Contextualizing Inductive Bible Study (Ibs) In A Postcolonial Filipino American Setting, Peter Tan-Gatue
Contextualizing Inductive Bible Study (Ibs) In A Postcolonial Filipino American Setting, Peter Tan-Gatue
The Asbury Journal
This article seeks to contextualize the application of Inductive Bible Study (IBS) to a postcolonial setting: the Filipino American Church in Los Angeles.1 As part of the process of doing so, this essay narrates a short history of colonization and Christianity in the Philippines, the migration of Filipinos to the United States and the challenges Filipino Americans encountered as a people living in a foreign land. Included in this story is the importance of Filipino American churches and some contemporary challenges and postcolonial issues (such as “colonial mentality” or internalized oppression) that affect a particular segment of Filipino Americans in …
