The purpose of the study is to investigate the motivational affects of Transactional Strategies Instruction (TSI) and generative themes applications in the effort to change students' attitude and behavior in reading novels and volume reading materials to improve ninth grade reading comprehension. A descriptive six-week qualitative study on improving ninth grade students' reading comprehension through teaching the concept of whole language and Transactional Strategies Instruction (TSI) was conducted.

The purpose of this study was to observe, assess, evaluate, instruct, and assess again the benefits of guided reading for one struggling student through a case study venue. The guided reading component of reading instruction has more than one facet to the acquisition of language. These facets are designed to strengthen the student's reading abilities.

This investigation was designed to determine if teaching vocabulary through integrating English and Social Studies curricula would provide tenth grade students who are poor readers with strategies to improve their reading comprehension. The strategies used were designed to support struggling readers and English language development students to connect denotative and connotative meanings of words found in the novel Animal Farm to their social studies class' content.

Teachers of beginning writers, who believe in a whole language philosophy for teaching language arts, are faced with the challenge of integrating spelling instruction into their writing programs. Traditional approaches that involve word lists and weekly spelling tests are not in accordance with whole language beliefs.

Outgoing students have the advantage over quiet students in oral class participation. Our problem was to determine whether this relationship was the same in the medium of writing by studying differences in quantity and quality of writing between a quiet and an outgoing group.
