A Critical Edition Of Gustave Vogt's 4eme Solo De Concert, Mark Runkles
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
As oboe professeur titulaire at the Paris Conservatory from 1816-53, Gustave Vogt established his importance as a pedagogue by teaching many leading nineteenth century European oboists, and his influence can be traced to numerous living oboists. Additionally, Vogt played a seminal role in developing a virtuosic Romantic oboe style that paralleled the virtuosic styles developed for the more prevalent Romantic solo instruments, the piano and violin. His music is rarely played today, and Vogt remains a largely unknown figure even within the oboe community. The purpose of this study is to develop a critical edition of Gustave Vogt's 4ème Solo …

Johannes Brahms, Vierzehn Deutsche Volkslieder, Woo 34, Nos. 1-14, An Arrangement, Transcription And Pedagogical Rationale For Wind Band, Robert Logan Biles
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
This document illustrates how specific educational objectives can be met in the wind band rehearsal through the selection, transcription, and arrangement of the Vierzehn Deutsche Volkslieder, WoO 34, Nos. 1-14 by Johannes Brahms. The first is a convertible transcription where each instrumental part contains transpositions of all of the original vocal parts making it adaptable for various combinations of instruments. …
Audio Mastering As Musical Practice, Matt Shelvock
Audio Mastering As Musical Practice, Matt Shelvock
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
This thesis examines audio mastering as musical communication. Tasks including loudness management, harmonic balance, denoising, phase alignment, monitoring, effects application, and administrative responsibilities are of central importance to mastering engineers. With the exception of administrative responsibilities, each of these tasks significantly shapes a record’s aesthetic character and physical makeup. These contributions – the final creative steps before an album’s release – demonstrate the mastering engineer’s role as a collaborative auteur in recorded musical communications.
Expression In Technical Exercises For The Cello: An Artistic Approach To Teaching And Learning The Caprices Of Piatti And Etudes Of Popper, Leah Hagel
Theses and Dissertations--Music
The Caprices of Piatti and Etudes of Popper are considered by most cellists to be fundamental components of the cello literature designed to provide a solid technical basis for the student. This document will provide an alternative approach to teaching and learning these works by focusing on the qualities of expression that can be developed during the process of integrating these studies into one's repertoire. After providing contextual information for the both composers and the works, I will examine how this concept of "artistry through technique" has been adopted by other art forms, used in training students on different instruments, …
