Euler Archive Spotlight: Translations Of Euler's Works To Languages Other Than English, Michael P. Saclolo
Euleriana
The Euler Archive is home to almost all of Euler’s original publications and roughly a quarter of them have accompanying translations to English. A small number of Euler’s works also have translations to a handful of other languages, namely, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Turkish that are available in the archive. We put a spotlight on these non-English translations in this issue.

Análisis De Formas Interiores Y Exteriores De La Novela El Día Señalado De Manuel Mejía Vallejo, Elisa Dávila.A
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The eye witnesses against MacArthur were members of the Truman Administration. Acheson and Marshall were the principal critics of MacArthur’s stand. Secretary Acheson testified that MacArthur had done a fine job in Japan and our allies agreed without policy there. Acheson replied to the alleged lack of policy by making a distinction between our policy and our war aims. Our policy in Korea looked to a unified, independent democratic government, but our war aim was to stop the attack on South Korea. Regarding the proposal that the United States take unilateral action if our allies did not support us, he …
Language Training For Missionaries, Laurence Mcpherson Farr
Language Training For Missionaries, Laurence Mcpherson Farr
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Every foreign missionary is confronted with one basic task. Without its successful accomplishment his work as a missionary will fail. It is the task of learning the language of the people among whom he is working. However laudable his motives may be, however great his consecration, and however capable he may be in many tasks, if he fails to gain the ability to understand readily speech addressed to him or to communicate his own thoughts intelligibly and accurately to them, he is working behind a closed door — a door which he failed to unlock,
It is the purpose of …
A Survey Of The English Language In The Philippines And The Various Filipino Dialects And The Development Of Tagalog As A National Language, Vidal Serrano Mata
A Survey Of The English Language In The Philippines And The Various Filipino Dialects And The Development Of Tagalog As A National Language, Vidal Serrano Mata
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
This Master Thesis aims to discuss the language mix-up in the Philippines. Originally, the people speak different dialects because of the lack of interaction due to geographical isolation. The Spaniards brought Spanish to them, which became the official language of the government until the Americans came and made English the medium of instruction in the school.
The trouble lies in the fact that English-speaking-and-loving Filipinos want English only, Spanish-speaking-and-loving Filipinos want Spanish only, Tagalog-speaking-and-loving Filipinos want Tagalog only while non-Tagalog-speaking Filipinos are either indifferent or prefer their respective dialects. This is the uncomfortable mess created by the principles of democracy …

Andre Gide, The Nonconformist, Edwa Langdon Mcdonald
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The life of André Gide is divided into four periods: his early life which he considered his period of darkness, his adolescence which was his period of mental confusion, his early mature years which was his period of defiance, and his later years which was his period of leadership. By studying his life the growth of his individualistic approach to everything and his reasons for not conforming to the pattern established by tradition will be traced.

Horacio Quiroga was born in the city of Salto, Uruguay, December 31, 1879. His birth was registered with the Argentinian consulate as his parents were citizens of that country. Quiroga attended school, first at the Instituto Universal de Montevideo, then at the Politécnico de Salto and finally at the University. His natural independence caused him to leave home at an early age.
Determining The Prognostic Value Of An Artificial Language Test, Alex Turkatte
Determining The Prognostic Value Of An Artificial Language Test, Alex Turkatte
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The object of the survey about to be described, was to establish the value of the artificial language test as a prognostic basis for language aptitude. Could the artificial language test be a reliable guide for determining a student's linguistic ability? Teachers have long needed something to give them an index to pupil's capabilities so as to meet better their needs in the class room. Counselors have wanted such tests to aid them in directing young people into channels of endeavor where they can best achieve success
Tipos Y Costumbres Satirizados En Los Sueños De Quevedo, Mary G. Phillips
Tipos Y Costumbres Satirizados En Los Sueños De Quevedo, Mary G. Phillips
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Tendencies Of The Generation Of '98 As Exhibited In The Dramatic Works Of Jacinto Benavente And Gregorio Martinez Sierra, Helen Danner
Tendencies Of The Generation Of '98 As Exhibited In The Dramatic Works Of Jacinto Benavente And Gregorio Martinez Sierra, Helen Danner
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
One of the most widely discussed movements of modern Spain is the activity of a literary school usually termed the Generation of '98. The Spanish American War proved to be the final humiliation of a century of political and economic decline in Spain.
A group of young men decided that something must be done to save Spain from crumbling to pieces before their very eyes. They loved their country, and its decline made them heart-sick. They knew something must be done to startle the people and to make them realize that they were no longer living in the Golden Age …
Hermann Und Dorothea And Luise : A Comparative Analysis, Bettie Louise Kroeck
Hermann Und Dorothea And Luise : A Comparative Analysis, Bettie Louise Kroeck
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Critics have not yet come to an agreement as to how much Goethe took from Voss's Luise for his Hermann und Dorothea: and how much credit we are justified in giving to Goethe's originality for his production. When Hermann und Dorothea first appeared, it was scorned by a great many readers as being a rather poor imitation of Luise. Now it is undoubtedly regarded as the better productions of the two. However many critics still consider it to be an imitation of Voss, although perhaps an improvement. Certainly, Goethe was inspired to the use of the hexameter, in the …
