The Imperial Russian Revision Lists Of The 18th And 19th Century, Joseph B. Everett

Faculty Publications

One of the most important resources for social and family historians researching in the former Russian Empire are the revision lists, a series of ten enumerations of the population conducted between 1719 and 1858. Listing the members of each household among taxable classes of people across the Russian Empire, the revisions lists are useful for studying historical population demographics and reconstructing family relationships. An awareness of these records and where to access them can be useful for Slavic librarians to facilitate the research of Russian historians and genealogists. His name appears in the college catalog of 1884 – 1885, along with his birthplace, the year of his birth, and a few other facts. From this start, we researched the genealogy and family history of Carlsson. This paper contains a short biography of Carlsson, a report on his ancestors, a report on his descendants, and some open questions for further research.

Papers related to the C.H. Freeman estate. Zubah and C.H. Freeman had many investments such as the Yawkey and Freeman Coal Company and the Freeman Estates. This collection contains contract agreements for property purchases of the Estates, a contour map of what seems to be the Freeman’s country residence, and correspondences between Zubah and realtors. This collection also houses some of Zubah’s family documents including old letters, registers of visitors from Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary, and Paul and Ricky Ray’s basketball documents.

This collection consists of the research done by Scott Lemley and Rod Pell on Isaac Mitchell’s life and genealogy, including his descendants, in order for Mitchell to be memorialized by the Huntington Police Department in 2013. The bulk of the collection consists of printed copies of email correspondence between Lemley and Bob Mitchell and Michelle Shypkoski (both descendants of Isaac Mitchell), printed genealogies, and two copies of the memoirs of William Clare Mitchell, a descendant who moved to Idaho. This collection contains two binders of genealogical information, titled “Shaffer Family Genealogy” and “McAlister/Fawcett Family Genealogy”. Families mentioned include Shaffer (Shaver), McAlister, Fawcett, Gilmore, Pritchett, Duncan, and Graham, primarily based in Virginia and West Virginia. The Shaffer Civil War letters are copies of the originals sent by Elijah Shaver, William Shaver, and George Shaver while serving in the Civil War on the Confederate side. They write about camp life, war experiences, and hopes that the war will end soon.

The collection contains two diaries by William Dusenberry, three books, copies, transcriptions, and indexes of the two diaries, and collected research on the Dugan family and the Fannie Dugan steamboat. The 1861-1862 diary has a store ledger from July 9, 1861 to August 26, 1862 and a diary from September 23 to November 11, 1862, while the 1873 diary covers the whole year. This collection is composed of photographs taken from two albums. The first album appears to depict members of the Harris family, with the textual matter folder of materials found in that album including a page that states, “Presented to Jane/Janie Harris by her Father as a Christmas Gift, December 25th, 1886” and a newspaper clipping about Evangelist pastors speaking in Baltimore. The second album is about the Thornburg (sometimes spelled Thornburgh) family. Photographs are primarily portraits in the cabinet card format and mounted on board, with only a few group portraits.
