Bolivia: Subaltern Politics In The Age Of The New Latin American Left Participation & Representaiion, Annika Gunderson

Through the voices of Bolivian women's organizations, testimonios [testimonials] deliver the message of many: the many who struggle against hierarchy and the status quo in order to organize, the many who seek to form a more representative, inclusive and deliberative State, and the many who, even centuries after the Spanish conquest, continue experiencing both external and internal colonization. A collective Bolivian action, encompassing both distinct and mutual identities, is manifested through these testimonios that serve to amplify the voices of the people. Using the land as a metaphor, the plights of many Bolivian women are explored.

Founded in Athens in 1954 the Association of Greek Women Artists aimed at promoting art among the Greek public, confronting the problems of women artists through collective action, and encouraging the presentation of Greek art on the international scene. In the 1950s and 1960s it organized a significant number of group exhibitions in Greece as well as abroad, where its members showed their work. This paper examines the context of the association’s all-women shows and their meaning in relation to feminist cultural politics inside but also beyond national borders. In 1927 the Great Female Exhibition was held in Chile within the framework of the fiftieth anniversary of the Amunátegui Decree (1877), a precept that allowed women to go to university. The Exhibition was the result of a series of initiatives by the high bourgeoisie that began in 1914 with the creation of women's organizations such as the Women's Art Society.

In 1780, during the final stretch of the American Revolutionary War, Esther Reed penned the broadside "Sentiments of an American Woman." It circulated in Philadelphia, persuading citizens to turn over their last dollars to the cause. Reed's broadside called to action the women of Philadelphia; they knocked on doors, campaigned with words, and stepped firmly into the "man's world" of politics and revolution. Reed's words were so effective that women in cities across the colonies took to raising money as well. The Women’s Marches of January 2017 and 2018 were some of the largest mass demonstrations in history. They represent an important stage in the American feminist movement in its current iteration. Unlike the first and second waves of the movement, which were led by privileged class cisgender white women, the leadership of these marches includes women of color who have brought a vision of intersectionality and diversity to the marches. Arab feminists have always faced challenges related to the burden of colonialism, accusations of westernization, isolation from their cultural heritage, and elitism, but the biggest challenge of all has been the fact that their activism and their entire lives have all been in the context of authoritarian postcolonial states.
