The research and creative achievement of more than 80 faculty members was honored at the University of Maine in Celebrating Scholarship, April 21, 2015, at the Collins Center for the Arts. The event was part of UMaine’s 150th anniversary celebration. It featured exhibits highlighting UMaine faculty scholarship since 2011, including research, books, and visual and performing arts.

Umaine's 150th Birthday Celebration, Division Of Marketing And Communications

In 1865 the Maine legislature passed a bill creating Maine's land grant university. On Feb. 24, 2015 nearly 700 people enjoyed birthday cake celebrating the University of Maine's 150th anniversary. The event held in the Memorial Union also included the opening of a new display in the Spirit Room detailing the history of UMaine's mascot, Bananas.

In 1978, the National Register of Historic Places designated the oldest section of the University of Maine campus as an Historic District. The area, framed by the Munson, Sebec, and Schoodic Roads encompassed 10 architecturally significant structures constructed between 1868 and 1913.

In 2010, the Historic District was approved for expansion and now incorporates Fogler Library, Stevens Hall complex, and University Mall.
