Always, like the Great Mississippi, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been a conduit of hope and fear and scientific conjecture, of faith in American progress and terror of what progress has wrought. Always the Engineers have shouldered much of the credit and blame for massively spectacular projects. Always, since the 1820s, when the agency emerged as a builder and broker on the Mississippi, the Corps has enlisted science in the service of waterway engineering that defenders call monumental and detractors call grandiose.

This letter dated August 20, 1946 from United States (US) Senator William Langer to Adorah Carson is a response to her August 9 letter regarding delaying the Garrison Dam construction. Senator Langer says that the US Department of the Interior will compensate the Three Affiliated Tribes of the Fort Berthold Reservation the equal value of the land. A handwritten note on the letter reads, "Indian Affairs."

This public law includes a section under “Flood Control” that specifies that the funds available for construction of the Garrison Reservoir Dam may not be spent on construction of the dam until the Secretary of the Interior finds lands “equal in quality and sufficient in area” for relocation and compensation of Three Affiliated Tribes of Fort Berthold Reservation.

This report from the United States (US) House Committee of Conference, dated December 20, 1945, was written to accompany US House Resolution 4805 which requested funds to supplement deficiencies from the fiscal year ending June 30, 1946. This report recommended an amendment to the resolution specifying that funds provided for the Garrison Reservoir Dam could not be spent on construction of the dam itself until the tribes were adequately provided for with lieu lands of equal quality and area. Six-page contract between the Arkansas State Capitol Commission and the construction firm Caldwell and Drake. Dated August 14, 1903, the contract is signed by George Caldwell (representing Caldwell and Drake), the five Arkansas State Capitol Commissioners. Capitol architect, George Mann, and Secretary of the Capitol Commission, Lehman Kay, also signed the contract as witnesses. It is printed on carbon paper with a smaller, green front cover and a blue back cover. There are markings on each page that identify edits, additions, and sections of the contract. There is also writing on the back cover that labels it.
