This collection consists primarily of materials produced by F.D. Hurd himself. The collection includes a memoir draft, photographs of his college experiences, diaries from his college and war time, and various artifacts and memorabilia from Hurd’s time in the military. The collection focuses heavily on Hurd’s college activities and his war service. While the collection does not provide much official information on Hurd’s military service and Gettysburg College experience, it does contain extensive anecdotal information from Hurd’s diaries and remembrances, dictated to his son in the 1970s. This collection consists primarily of letters, photographs, and academic materials from Gettysburg College in 1922-1926, as well as miscellaneous memorabilia from that time and a small amount of alumni materials. The academic materials include textbooks and lab manuals, mostly from biology and chemistry courses, as well as class notes written by Sipe. While the letters were written during Sipe’s time as a student, they are almost entirely from female friends of Sipe, none of whom appear to have attended Gettysburg College. A large portion of the collection contains documents related to the management of the Pennsylvania German Society. It includes correspondence from fellow Directors, Committee Chairs, Society members, authors and researchers; as well as memos, minutes, and financial records from various Society committees. A portion of the Society- related papers include documents, pamphlets and sources relating to Society events, issues, and special interests.

Smaller portions of the collection have personal scrapbooks, photos, and postcards of Weiser's travels in Europe, the United States, and his time at Gettysburg College. Some others are related to the Lutheran church and early German immigrant culture. …

This collection contains the remaining records of the Delaware State Steering Committee during the 1968 Eugene McCarthy presidential campaign. Unfortunately, the Delaware State Steering Committee kept very little in the way of written reports. The content of this collection is what was left when the office was cleaned out: newsletters, flyers, posters, newspapers, a 45 rpm recording, campaign instructions, posters, and buttons. The press releases contain the contents of many of McCarthy’s speeches and writings.

For the most part, the collection represents Forness’ interest in architecture and architectural history as well as teaching Included is his research and writing on John Dempwolf, (a German architect from York, Pennsylvania who designed Glatfelter Hall, Brua Hall, and McKnight Hall) as well as other Pennsylvania architects and architecture in America. The collection also contains his files during the time he served on the Historical Architecture Review Board for the Borough of Gettysburg, 1988 through 2008. Also included are Forness’ course materials, lecture notes, examinations and grade book for his history courses at Gettysburg College.
