Lots include lot numbers, pencil and ink notations identifying bodies of water and homesteads. Bodies of water are shaded in blue. Other features are color-coded and coded with line patterns but the map lacks an interpretive key.

The map scale is 1:63,360, or one inch to a mile.

A faded pencil inscription at the bottom of the map is illegible. Lovely Brook is identified as laying south of the identified "South Line of the Plymouth Township," but a larger river bisecting the land block is unidentified. The creator of the map is not identified but the document is part of the collection belonging to John Gardner.

Ella Corinne Brown was a faculty member at the University of Maine in Orono from 1962 to 1979. She was responsible for writing the course program for parks and recreation and designed the specialized program leading to a degree in parks and recreation. Brown was born in 1920 in Kansas City, Missouri and died in Orono, Maine in 1987. She graduated from the University of Missouri in 1951 and received her master's degree from Montana State University in 1961. She received her Ph.D. degree from Indiana University.

Walter Arnold was born in 1894 in Willimantic, Maine, the son of Alonzo and Alice Arnold. As a young man Walter hunted, trapped and guided with his father. After service in World War I, he started a mail order business, selling trapping supplies and animal trapping scents and lures nationwide.

Shaw and Arnold were good friends and hunting buddies for over twenty years. They wrote letters to each other frequently from 1959-1980 discussing their day-to-day life and the hunting or trapping adventures they shared together.

Jasper Hutchings was a lawyer from Brewer, ME. He was born in the Penobscot County area in 1835. Hutchings attended Williams College and began practicing law in Aroostook County, Maine around 1861. He appears to have worked for the Lincoln Pulp and Paper Company from the years 1869 though around 1900.

Collection includes files and correspondence created by and relating to Jasper Hutchings and his work for the Lincoln Pulp and Paper Company. Also included are stockholder lists, financial records, and dockets. Professor Katherine Ogilvie Musgrave was born February 8, 1920, in Allisona, TN. Having graduated with a B.S. in Food Nutrition from Maryville College in 1941 Musgrave would go on to earn a M.S. in Nutrition from Oklahoma State University in 1968. The following year (1969) Professor Musgrave started at the University of Maine as an instructor and assistant professor in Food and Nutrition before in 1979 earning a professorship. Professor Musgrave retired from the University of Maine in 1986 but remained active in the field of nutrition.

Arthur E. Silver was born in 1879 at Silvers Mills, a rural neighborhood named for his grandfather in Dexter, Maine. He graduated from the University of Maine, class of 1902, with a B.S. degree. He received his doctor of engineering (an honorary degree) from the University of Maine in 1954. He was chief electrical engineer for Ebasco Services, Inc., formerly Electric Bond and Share Co. until his retirement in 1948.

Dr. Hilda M. Fife was born in Greenland, N.H., in 1903. She received her B.A. degree from Colby College and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Cornell University. She also did graduate work at Boston University and the University of Chicago. She became professor of English at the University of Maine from 1946 until retiring as professor emerita in 1969. She founded the Maine Old Cemetery Association and was active in the Kittery Maritime Museum, the Rice Public Library in Kittery, and the Maine League of Historical Societies and Museums. She died in 1990.

Salgo Professor in the College of Business Administration.
