John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson both played critical, contradictory roles in the long, arduous saga of the accession of Florida which culminated in 1821 with the Adams-OnĂs treaty, a story which examines the development of republican sentiment on issues such as slavery, Indian relations, and foreign policy.
