An extensive cultural resources document for the Eel River Estuary Preserve was prepared in 2014 to identify resources within the initial project area. With new project proposals and an expanded Area of Potential Effect (APE), several additional structures were surveyed. This addendum looked at three barns and a house, none of which will be affected by proposed projects. They were surveyed because they fall within the expanded APE.

Some of the research conducted for the 2014 historic resources document was applicable to the addendum, including land ownerships and newspaper references. For the present report, additional research was conducted in the …

The California Redwood Company (Green Diamond Resource Company/Simpson Timber Company) closed its Korbel mill February 2015. Decommissioning plans will include the sale of equipment, requiring partial dismantling of the sawmill. At some later date, the sawmill will be demolished. To comply with California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Section 15064.5, “Determining the Significance of Impacts to Archaeological and Historical Resources,” a Historic Resources Report was prepared. The report includes historic background information on the mill site, assessment of the sawmill using CEQA criteria, and a determination of significance.

Report on Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. The focus of this paper is a Euro-American history with broad coverage of the activities and people associated with the land before and during establishment of the Park. However, it fully acknowledges the indigenous society that occupied and used places within the Park and traveled its trails connecting the Klamath River and coastal locations, all part of traditional Yurok territory.

The City of Eureka is planning a trail that will end/begin near the house located at 2186 Tydd Street, which was initially not considered to be within the Area of Potential Effect (APE). Subsequent to the cultural resources report prepared by Roscoe and Associates, the City extended the APE to include the house, anticipating its removal to provide parking for trail users. "Joan explained that the church property has suffered from water damage, due to topography, drainage problems, paved parking lot on east side of the church, downspouts, etc. They have done extensive work to remedy resulting problems affecting the church edifice. When they began looking at the rectory, it was one problem after another after another until they decided it wasn’t worth trying to keep up the old building, but decided to demolish it and build a new rectory."

The parish of Our Lady of the Redwoods Catholic Church, 515 Maple Lane, Garberville, California (APN 032-135-017) is developing plans to build a new rectory adjacent to the church edifice. The proposal is to demolish the existing house, replacing it with one of similar architecture, but somewhat smaller. Because the rectory is well over fifty years of age, a Historic Resources Report was prepared to document its history and architecture in order to make a determination of historic significance per Section 15064.5 of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

The first phase of the City of Fortuna’s Rohner Creek flood control project will involve channel modification, widening, and bank stabilization to reduce flooding of bordering properties. Two buildings at the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Headquarters (118 Fortuna Blvd.) are slated for demolition and will not be replaced.
