There is something so right about college football this year. On January 2, nearly a week before the so-called BC$ National Championship game, there is a legitimate national champion already in place. As the calendar turns over from 2004 to 2005 we are back where we were a year ago with the BCS. Once again the "C" has been removed. At the end of the regular season there were five undefeated college football teams. In the meticulously constructed world of the BCS only two of those five teams played each other in bowl games negating the claim of a national championship although there certainly is a BCS champion.

Everyone now knows what the "BS" in the "BCS" stands for but there seems to be some doubt remaining about the "C." Some suggest "computer," some say "compound," some say it is a redundant statement of the "S." Whatever it is, several other things are now clear.
