Correspondence discusses an estate settlement, pending legislation amending certain city charters, family financial matters, and a candidate’s defeat in an 1884 primary election after two of three barrooms in the precinct were “thrown wide open” for his opponent.

Stanley, Jr., a breeder of Spotted Poland hogs and proprietor of Sunnybank Farm, Reed, Kentucky, to Clementz Grocery, Greenville, Illinois, replying to an inquiry about his leaf tobacco. He confirms its availability, notes that it is air-cured rather than fired, and quotes a price of 20 cents per pound.
