Albert Lincoln "Bert" Call, 1866-1963, was a professional photographer in Dexter, Maine, from 1887 to 1953. He started as an apprentice to A.G. Fassett and shortly thereafter purchased Fassett's studio. Call was a portrait photographer but was also known for his artistic photographs of the northern Maine woods. Call also served as the official photographer for the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad's publication, "In the Maine Woods," from 1915 to 1931.

The collection includes 3,376 photographs dating between 1914 and 1939 of outdoor scenes of mountains, lakes, woods and streams in the northern part of Maine. Included are shots from the …

Some photographs appear to be of members of the Woodsum family. Additional family names include Arnold, Kidder Goding, and Curtis.

In 1883, the Maine Board of Agriculture called for the establishment of a formal experiment station in Orono. With the support of state funds the Maine Fertilizer Control and Agricultural Experiment Station (later becoming the Maine Agricultural & Forest Experiment Station). Eventually the Station would expand its research into genetics and breeding, entomology, forestry, food, potatoes, blueberries, and dairy. Such studies have been funded by both state and federal agriculture grants.

The College of Agriculture was established at the University of Maine in 1868 and went on to provide courses on animal husbandry, farm management, forestry, dietetics, household management, handwork, childcare and child welfare, home economics education, history and economics of agriculture, food processing, and horticulture. Today, many of the responsibilities of the former College are carried out by the College of Natural Sciences, Forestry, and Agriculture and Cooperative Extension Service, which is now a separate department.

The Cooperative Extension is part of the nationwide Cooperative Extension System, which works through the land-grant universities in each U.S. state. Maine’s land-grant university is in Orono at the University of Maine.

The records mainly contain textual information created by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, but there are also photographic, visual, and audio visual material. Some of the report record series also contain photographs of Cooperative Extension Service operations, events, and staff. The reports submitted during the First World War and Second World War years detail the effects the wars had on agriculture in Maine.

Lewis P. Warren was born in Westbrook, Maine on August 11, 1817, the youngest child of John and Eleanor (Lamb) Warren. Lewis and his brother George entered into partnership with Rufus and Cyrus King, who kept a large general store. Cyrus and Lewis P. took charge of the dry-goods department while George and Rufus managed the grocery department. After five years, in the fall of 1842, Lewis P. withdrew from active work at the company in order to manage his father’s farm business.

Witter Teaching and Research Center, the livestock research facility at the University of Maine, often referred to as the Witter Farm, consists of 300 acres of land in Old Town, Maine, near the campus. The collection contains a daily list of farm chores written in 1866-1867 by an unknown compiler as well as Samuel York's diaries from 1891-1923, outlining his daily activities on his farm. Poultry records for 1907 and 1912-1913 are also found in the collection. Also included are letters dated 1883-1895 to Frank P. York , then living in Manchester, New Hampshire. The letters are primarily from his mother, Augusta York, and his sisters, Mary and Hattie, and discuss family matters. An audiotape made by the donor, Ellen M. This small collection reflects the life-long involvement of Austin Cary in the areas of forestry and forest management.

The collection contains correspondence, mostly incoming, 1893-1936, from professional colleagues writing to Cary about areas of common interest. It also contains a file of memos and letters Cary prepared for presentation to President Franklin Roosevelt in 1934.

Notebooks dating from 1924-1961 kept by Guy Kendall about race horses and harness racing in Maine and New Hampshire. A few notebooks also have information about races in Connecticut and Massachusetts. The notebooks include photographs of the horses and drivers, racing programs listing the horses in each race and notes on how the horses placed in the races. The notebooks are arranged chronologically.
