This book includes a full-length transcription of a 1751-1754 civil and ecclesiastical investigation against kuraca (native chief) Gregorio Taco, prominent community leader of Andagua, in the province of Arequipa, Peru. The original document can be found at the Archivo Arzobispal de Arequipa (AAA). Taco, a wealthy Indian merchant, was found guilty of practicing ancient Andean rituals, banned as demonic by the colonial church, that included healing, divination, ancestral mummies worshiping, and cult of mountain spirits (wamani).
