(October 7 -29, 1967) to New York (Pierpont Morgan Library: November 15, 1967 - January 2, 1968), San Francisco (M.H. de young Memorial Museum: January 14 - February 12, 1968) and Chicago (Art Institute: February 24 - March 26, 1968) 1) poses two problems:

A Swiss View On The American Civil War, Dr. Hans Rudolf Guggisberg

Swiss American Historical Society Newsletter

About a year ago, the Ticino chapter of the Swiss Officers' Society published a special supplement to tis journal, the Rivista militare della Svizzera italiana. It is a little book of about 120 pages, nicely printed, well edited, and embellished with a number of good illustrations. The contents are of surprising interest to students of Swiss military history as well as to those of the America Civil War. This is the reason why we believe that the volume should be brought to the attention of the readers of the SAHS Newsletter. It contains the first publication of the repots of …

The Swiss Cookbook By Nika Standen Hazelton Jun 1967

The Swiss Cookbook By Nika Standen Hazelton

Swiss American Historical Society Newsletter

We have just received this new Swiss cookbook. All the cooking experts we consulted confirm that it is excellent. The recipes are preceded by an introduction in which we learn much about the history and philosophy of Swiss cooking. The traditional Swiss meals were simple, but very carefully prepared and served. The carefulness is an excellent basis: As long as it can be preserved, the Swiss cuisine will keep its good renown, and there is not reason to doubt that this will not be the case. The success of emigrated Swiss cooks all over the world shows us that this …

The Mind Of Albert Gallatin (1761-1849) Revisited1, Dr. Leo Schelbert

Swiss American Historical Society Newsletter

The gentleman to v:hom I am about to allude, although long a resident of this country, has no feelings, no attachments, no sympathies, no principles in common with our people. Near fifty years ago Pennsylvania took him to her bosom, and warmed and cherished and honored him; and how does he manifest his gratitude? By aiming a vital blow at a system endeared to her by a thorough conviction that it is indispensable to her prosperity. He has filled, at home and abroad, the highest offices under this government during thirty years, and he is still at heart an alien …

Sources Of The American And Swiss Constitutions In Ancient Greek Political Thought, Thomas C. Gelzer Jan 1967

Sources Of The American And Swiss Constitutions In Ancient Greek Political Thought, Thomas C. Gelzer

Swiss American Historical Society Newsletter

Looking for a suitable subject for the Swiss-American Historical Society within the reach of a classicist, I found the question of the Ancient Greek Sources in the American Constitution. Although not a historian, I thought that would mean treating matters of historical significance as well as of unbroken continuance of the effects of classical thinking. In addition to that the Constitution is one of the living connections which links the mighty United States of America with the tiny Swiss Confederation. But, big or small, both nations have drawn continuously vital forces from the order of life which is shaped by …

A Historical Study Of The Religious Education Program Of The Episcopal Church In Utah, Paul La Mar Martin

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this writing is to bring to light and to trace the historical development of the religious education program of the Episcopal Church in Utah from its first organized attempts to the present time.
The writer has gone to as many original or near original sources as possible. Considerable dependence was placed upon a careful survey of historical books and articles published by the Episcopal Church. These sources were supplemented by personal interviews with Mrs. Elizabeth T. Corr, headmistress of Rowland Hall, and Right Rev. Richard S. Watson, Bishop of the Episcopal Missionary District of Utah, who were …
