“Common Threads” will be presented as a virtual event in a TV-broadcast style format similar to the popular television program, “CBS Sunday Morning.” Hosted by UMaine alumna J.C. Monahan, a news anchor of NBC’s Boston affiliate, WBTS-TV, each story will be narrated by prominent Black Bear alumni such as NPR’s Brian Naylor, former Maine Supreme Court Justice Leigh Ingalls Saufley, veteran broadcaster Bill Green, and Honorary Degree recipient U.S. Senator Susan M. Collins.

The event’s theme recognizes honorees’ individual accomplishments as well as their intertwined experience of attending UMaine, “the college of our hearts always!”

The Black Bear Award for Extraordinary Impact is given annually to an individual or group at the University of Maine who exceeds expectations, contributes positively to the University community and makes an extraordinary impact through their efforts. UMaine faculty and staff (full-time and part-time) are eligible for this award.
