Ethnic Conflict In South Texas: 1860–1930, Alberto Rodriguez

South Texas ethnic conflict has been documented as a White/Brown struggle excluding the many Blacks that came to the border from 1860–1930. Blacks that came to South Texas faced legal segregation by Anglos and a Mexican caste system that dated back to Spanish colonial times. Alliances with both Anglos and Mexican caused both social mobility and conflict for South Texas Blacks. This research argues that Blacks have been marginalized by both Anglos and Mexicans on the South Texas border.
