The purpose in writing this paper is to advance an opinion, one cushioned by actual factual findings brought forth in the course of research and study . The forces in the campaign that was to bring prohibition to Utah in 1917 had become identified with the prohibition movement by the spring of 1908. On the side of the drys were the various temperance organizations, the churches of Utah and the major political parties. Allied agaist the prohibition group were the combined liquor interests. Uncommitted to either side were the authorities of the Mormon Church, although both groups could seemingly lay claim to the support of the Church authorities when conflicting statements and actions of that body were put before the public view.

In the wake of the Protestant penetration into the Near East, Jacob Spori was sent to Constantinople in 1884 to open a mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Turkey. Spori and later his companion, Joseph M. Tanner, preached first to the Europeans of Constantinople, then projected their efforts down into the major cities of Palestine. Among the German colonists, the missionaries found several valuable converts, most of whom emigrated to Utah.

Ferdinand F. Hintze gained the title "Father of the Armenian Mission" through his extensive preaching tours throughout the interior of Asia Minor. He found …

Although several studies exist in French on the French and English literature of Morocco up to the twentieth century, nothing of a similar nature is extant for books on the country in English. Moreover, no previous study included twentieth century English and American books. A survey of the serious works on Morocco reveals that that country has been generally neglected by American and English scholars as an area for Investigation.
