To the individual interested in the history of California, and the influence of early inhabitants of the state on its future life and development, a study of the coming of the Russians early in the nineteenth century, of their comparatively brief stay of about thirty years, and of the effect which their presence had upon the policies and activities of at least three other nations, is one which will prove to be of surprisingly great interest.
