He also writes to her from Dawson Springs, Kentucky and from hospital in Louisville. Annabelle’s sister-in-law writes from East Orange, New Jersey, with family news and urges her to visit; she also quizzes Annabelle about her bowel ailment in order to secure recommendations for treatment. …

Finding aid only for Manuscripts Small Collection 3490. Letters of H. C. McConnell, proprietor of Valley View Stock Farm, Princeton, Kentucky, to his wife Sudie in St. Louis, Missouri. A letter of 14 November 1915[?] refers to family and their young daughter Josephine, and evaluates photographs made by Sudie; a letter of 3 March[?] 1919 mentions several family members, the prevalence of influenza in Cadiz, Kentucky, his work on another “plant bed,” and the weights of their two children.

The 1933 letters mention the financial effects of the Great Depression and the difficulty of paying teachers.

Cherry, Indianapolis, Indiana, to John Marion Stahl, Jr., Bowling Green, Kentucky, in which she states her desire “to make your life happy and sweet.” It includes a facsimile of a $7 postal money order from Cherry to Stahl. In April 1915, Cherry sent a promissory note for thirty dollars to be drawn on Bowling Green’s American National Bank. She did not sign the note, so also included is a short letter to Stahl from J. He describes arriving at her home to find her already departed for other amusements, and his distress at her possible preference for riding in a car rather than his “tiresome old buggy.” Embarrassed and hurt, he nevertheless declares his affection and denies any intention to offend her. Includes a photo postcard to Mary showing a social gathering.

Fred refers to his work and health, their marriage plans, and a pending legal case. Other letters to Sarah are from childhood friends and classmates and friends of her mother. Includes a family letter to Sarah’s mother, and letters to her father from his sister and her children in Knoxville, Tennessee, which refer to farming operations and hopes for an improved economy under the new president, Franklin Roosevelt.
