This public relations press release dated 1946, from the United States (US) Army Corps of Engineers, regarding lieu lands related to the Garrison Dam states that the US War Department and the US Department of Interior have arrived at a proposal. This proposal would give the affected 300 families of the Three Affiliated Tribes of the Fort Berthold Reservation lieu lands from Oliver and Mercer counties to replace lands that will be flooded by the Garrison Dam.
