• Maine’s public universities degrees awarded 5,389 degrees during the 2008-09 academic year; a decrease of -221 over the previous year.

• Nearly 74% of degrees conferred are at the baccalaureate level; over 6% at the associate level; over 16% at the masters level; and nearly 3% at the doctorate level (including law).

• 70% of all degrees are conferred at UMaine and USM; 10% at UMA; 8% at UMF; nearly 6% at UMPI; 4% at UMFK; and 1.5% at UMM.

The Black Bear women's swimming & diving team are set to improve on their 3-6 record and 7th place America East finish from a year ago. The team will look for success from a mixture of vetern Black Bears and the strong underclassmen. The men's team looks to continure turning the comer towards success as they open the 2009-10 season. Last year saw the men's team finish 5th in the America East Championships with a record of 3-2, the first time they have been above .500 since the 1999-00 season.

Richard Grande was born and raised in South Philadelphia. He was educated in the Philadelphia Parochial System from kindergarten through high school. He graduated from Bishop Neumann High School in June of 1960. He attended La Salle College from September 1960 through May 1965. In 1964, he was on the team of scholars who brought national recognition to La Salle College through their appearance on the nationally televised quiz program, the GE College Bowl.
