This collection consists of one scrapbook entitled containing photographs, ephemera, and memorabilia collected by Elizabeth Francis (later Agee) during and after her time at Marshall. Materials in the scrapbook include an autograph and note section, dance cards, sorority correspondence and invitations, student government materials, a student directory, event programs, photographs of Francis at Marshall and, later, family photographs, a gradebook for an 8th grade course taught by Francis, and other mixed materials such as handkerchiefs and calling cards. Also included in the scrapbook are slips of paper identifying subjects or items written by Susan Riggs, Agee’s daughter.

This collection consists of correspondence, photographs, a scrapbook, clippings, and ephemera related to Marion Vest Fors' murals which were painted in the James E. Morrow Library as part of the centennial celebration of Marshall College. The murals were removed for remodeling circa 1966 and remounted in 2005. The scrapbook was created by Fors about her creation of the mural to justify its emergence from storage and reuse in the Morrow Library. Also included in the collection are paintbrushes used in the painting of the murals.

This collection is principally composed of a diary written by Robert A. Grant while he was a student at Marshall between 1933 and 1938. The diary covers Grant’s life as a student and his work in the Anderson-Newcomb department store. Additional materials include copies of the Parthenon published after the 1970 Marshall plane crash, a copy of the Greenline with Grant’s name in it as a donor, two algebra textbooks from 1903 and 1904, and newspaper clippings about an October 1970 riot in Huntington.

This collection consists of two folders containing materials disparate in subject matter: one consisting of a list of many descendants of John Marshall compiled by Sam Clagg for Marshall University’s Sesqui-Centennial Committee in 1987, another of materials sent to Marshall University by one of these descendants. This collection contains correspondence from L. J. Corbly and J. E. Plummer, president of Marshall College and the Marshall Business College respectively, to recruit the Osburns/Osbornes to attend Marshall. This collection includes Marshall College ephemera from 1904-1906, including advertising pamphlets, a 1905 copy of The Parthenon, general course information, and empty envelopes.

The accession record states that this collection included a cylindrical photograph of the Marshall College student body in May of 1930, however, this item was not found when the collection was processed.

This collection is composed “Cavalry Drill Regulations, United States Army” in 1911, and pilot’s log book. The log book was owned by Howard E. Emmons and contains approximately twenty pages of materials spanning from July to December of 1918, beginning in the U.S. School of Military Aeronautics at the Ohio State University and including flight activities at Carruthers Field in Fort Worth, Texas. A major portion of the Bertha Filson papers consists of certificates of award, membership, and certification--all pertaining to Mrs. Filson’s activities as an educator, churchwoman, and Marshall University alumna. Correspondence includes letters from Lawrence J. Corbly, president of Marshall College from 1896 until 1915; George M. Ford, state superintendent of schools; and James Leftwich, a former student of Mrs. Filson’s who became president of the F. W. Woolworth Company.

Lewis papers consist primarily of a holograph draft of a history of Marshall College from its founding in 1837 until the 1890s, with an emphasis on the early years, before the Civil War. Included are research notes, trascriptions of documents, correspondence, and a copy of the contract between Mrs. Virgil Lewis and Lawrence Corbly, former president of the college, who carried on the work of the history after Mr. Lewis's death.
