Reconsidering The Date Of The Baptismal Font In San Isidoro, Leon, Spain, Harriet M. Sonne De Torrens Dr.

The baptismal font that stands today in the Cahpel of the Salazares n the Royal Collegiate Church of San Isidoro of Seville in Leon, Spain has been assigned an early eleventh century date, ca. 1000-1050, making it the earliest of all known extant fonts, in both Spain and in the Latin West, that are ornamented with scenes from the life of Christ. This essay reviews the scholarship and proposes a 12th century date based on comparative examples in both Spain and the larger context of the Latin West.

Resumen En el Tossal de les Basses (Alicante), y para final de época islámica (en los siglos XII-XIII), se documenta un asentamiento, con algunos enterramientos, así como dos hornos cerámicos con sus testares. Se trataría de una pequeña alquería dedicada, básicamente, a la fabricación de distintas producciones cerámicas que distribuirían a través de la medina Laqant. Hemos podido, además, documentar un horno, con distintas reparaciones, y la rotura definitiva del mismo. Termina, de esta manera, un dilatado ciclo de producción cerámica en la zona que se viene documentando –por los análisis de pastas- desde época neolítica, si bien por ahora …

This paper examines how the Ghetto of Rome was represented in the many view-plans and maps of Rome from the 16th through 18th centuries, and how this mapping both tells us much about the physical appearance of the Ghetto and also how it was perceived by others in particular and presented to others more generally.

This paper studies the depiction of the marriage contract in Dutch, French and English genre paintings from the 14th to 18th centuries. Increasingly, scholars have recognized that visual imagery influences the development of legal norms and institutions. During the period studied several genre artists produced paintings that dealt with themes that were central to the issues surrounding the marriage laws, such as the rights of women or whether marriage is a sacrament or a contract. Interestingly, many of the themes depicted in the collective body of marriage contract art echoes and amplifies the issues surrounding the rights of women and …
