Christianity In The Lives Of Highly Educated African American Women, Cecelia J. Travick-Jackson

Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies ETDs

This ethnography describes the function of Christianity in the lives of three uncelebrated well-educated African American women. The women are members of academia who hold doctorate degrees. The study gives insight into the function of Christianity in the private and professional lives of the participants. Although their experiences were diverse, the participants were of one accord in understanding Christianity as a coping strategy that provided them with a mechanism to read and interpret the events of their lives.

‘One Is Not Born A Latina, One Becomes One’: The Construction Of The Latina Feminist Theologian In Latino/A Theology, Michelle A. González

Journal of Hispanic / Latino Theology

The author argues that feminism and feminist theory are not taken seriously enough as critical resources in Latina/o theology. She interrogates the politics of identity as practiced &mdash overtly and covertly by Latinx theologian &mdash and how that identity discourse refracts the production of theology in the academy. She calls for greater collaboration among feminist theologians, as well as women who do not consciously use a feminist hermeneutic. Finally, she urges Latino theology to train a hermeneutics of suspicion on every essentialism, particularly figurings of "the people," as they often appear in Latinx theologies.

This article offers an analysis of a struggle for control of a women’s development project in Nepal. The story of this struggle is worth telling, for it is rife with the gender politics and neo-colonial context that underscore much of what goes on in contemporary Nepal. In particular, my analysis helps to unravel some of the powerful discourses, threads of interest, and yet unintended effects inevitable under a regime of development aid. African American Student Athletes' Perceptions Of Career Transition In Sport: A Qualitative And Visual Elicitation, Keith Harrison

This study focuses on 26 African American athletes and explores their perceptions of athletic career transition. Participants consisted of student athletes from a United States National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division IIA institution in the Southeastern region. Participants completed the Life After Sports Scale (LASS), a 58-item inventory utilized to qualitatively and quantitatively examine seven different domains which influence perceptions of the career transition process. The scope of this inquiry examines the qualitative domain of the LASS in which participants were visually primed with a narrative description of a student athlete that has made transition out of sport successfully.
