A Kentucky Dressmaker, Mrs. A.H. (Carrie) Taylor: An Examination Of Her Role In Fashion At The Turn Of The Century, Janice Centers
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
One dressmaker, Mrs. A. H. Taylor of Bowling Green, Kentucky, was studied in order to draw attention to the role of the dressmaker in American fashion. A biography of Mrs. A. H. Taylor and the business history were compiled; available designs were analyzed in relation to current fashion; and an investigation of the business organization was made. It was found that the dressmaking establishment played an important role in the lives of women of that time period. Fashionable custom fit clothing was made available to local residents and to mail-order customers. The establishment was one of the few businesses which …

Betty Wiseman graduated from Belmont College and began teaching health and physical education in 1966. She was the founder and coach of the Belmont women’s basketball team, the Rebelettes (now Bruins), in 1968. At the time, it was one of the first women’s collegiate teams in the southeast. She was inducted into the Belmont Athletics Hall of Fame in 1981. She was also inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in 2004. Wiseman coached the women’s team for 16 years (1968-1984) before moving into athletic administration at Belmont. She served as Assistant Athletics Director until her retirement in 2013. …

The Abortion Interest Movement of South Carolina Records consist of correspondence, speeches, brochures, pamphlets, studies, newspaper clippings, and other records concerning abortion reform not only in South Carolina but in other states. The collection offers a good source of information on the movement to repeal abortion laws not only in South Carolina but also in other parts of the United States and in Europe. The Abortion Interest Movement (AIM) was organized in March, 1969 and developed as an extension of the People for Abortion Reform/Repeal.
