People Like Ourselves, Harper D. Hair
People Like Ourselves, Harper D. Hair
University of New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
The thesis writing here is an effort by the artist to identify his motives in creating, and his aims for the audience, and to communicate this to the reader in a clear and truthful manner. Section 1 focuses on introducing the ground of the artists’ thinking, discussing his ideas of the body and culture identity, and how they motivate his work. Section 2 goes into greater detail about the manner his thought process evolved through the course of a number of works. In Section 3, there is an ever sharper focus in the works towards the isolated and inscrutable individual. …
The Twilight Zone: The Confluence Of Childhood Scenes And Future Anxiety, Jongwon Bae
The Twilight Zone: The Confluence Of Childhood Scenes And Future Anxiety, Jongwon Bae

Jongwon Bae’s paintings reflect his childhood memories as an archive that is to be repressed until it manifests itself in uncertain ways as it becomes confluent with the anxiety about the future.
Combining An Intuitive Art Workshop And Neuroscience Rituals To Make Us Happy, Audrey Gran Weinberg
Combining An Intuitive Art Workshop And Neuroscience Rituals To Make Us Happy, Audrey Gran Weinberg
The STEAM Journal
One might wonder how intuitive art can connect to neuroscience and how this could be accomplished. In this descriptive article, research connecting art therapy and neuroscience has been collected and a workshop on Intuitive Painting has been described in detail. The connection was made by the author based on an article by Barker (2017), ‘4 Rituals to be more Happy,’ who writes a popular science blog. The rituals: gratefulness, expressing negative emotions, decision making and human touch were combined with Dr. Pinkie Feinstein’s method of Intuitive Painting in a small group setting. Although subjective, it would seem that at least …

Music And Art: An Aesthetic Experience, Samantha Martin
Music And Art: An Aesthetic Experience, Samantha Martin
Honors Projects
This project sought to pair art songs performed at my senior recital with paintings. The paintings chosen had to be within one hundred years of the songs’ composition, from the same country as the composer, and have a similar theme or meaning as the art song. The goal was to create an aesthetic experience, as well as making the meanings of the songs more accessible for the audience, especially if the songs were in a foreign language.
El Arte De "Lágrimas En La Lluvia", Todd K. Mack
El Arte De "Lágrimas En La Lluvia", Todd K. Mack
Alambique.
The Tapestry Of Memory, Kathryn M. Lawson
The Tapestry Of Memory, Kathryn M. Lawson
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Rationality points to the complete annihilation and end of a life when the body perishes, and yet when a loved one dies we continue to experience that person in a myriad of ways. The focus of this thesis will be a phenomenological exploration of the earthly afterlife of those we have loved and lost. By positing the subject as always intersubjective and as temporal in nature, this thesis will investigate how we continue to create and interact with the deceased upon the earth. In the introduction, this work will be placed in the context of the phenomenological tradition. The first …

ARTIST
My work is a melding of mythology and personal experience. Growing up in the harsh desert of the Coachella Valley, I found refuge in music and art. My desire to become a drummer has leaded me to create a persona called Baby Lamb. Baby Lamb is a symbolic representation, as well as a physical manifestation of this desire and she is slowly evolving, eventually becoming my alter ego. Currently, the artwork that I create is a chapter in the life story of Baby Lamb.

Baby Lamb's art shows have included a collection of relics that have been …
Welcome To My Dream – Quasi Queer Fiction, Christian A. Rogers
Welcome To My Dream – Quasi Queer Fiction, Christian A. Rogers
Theses and Dissertations
Roseate and bodacious, the hand formed surfaces of Christian Rogers' paintings explore gay culture and history though a quasi-fictional lens. While utilizing folk like imagery, Christian depicts dramatic moments of love, lust, sex and violence as he takes us to queer realms.
Remembering Virtual Worlds: Painting And Video Games, Nathaniel M. St. Amour
Remembering Virtual Worlds: Painting And Video Games, Nathaniel M. St. Amour
Masters Theses, 2010-2019
Video games create the feeling of great achievement and place the player into a role that turns them into a great hero. These experiences feel significant because they require great time and emotional investment. The monumentality of these experiences, however, are at odds with the transience of the electrical virtual worlds. The medium of oil painting helps overcome the sense of transience because of oil painting’s durable permanent way of image making and stillness. Painting’s inherent nod to history also creates a dissonance between the newness of the video game medium and the antiquity of painting, a contrast exacerbated by …
Creative Nonnatives: Painting Invasive Insects Of The United States, Monica Tynan
Creative Nonnatives: Painting Invasive Insects Of The United States, Monica Tynan
Senior Honors Projects
An invasive species is a nonnative organism that may cause damage to an ecosystem. Invasive species cause problems in an environment by outcompeting native organisms for resources or by feeding upon native species. Invasive insects in particular can harm an ecosystem by consuming foliage and decreasing biodiversity. During my experience at the Preisser Lab at the University of Rhode Island, I witnessed rsthand the damage that invasive insects can do to a tree population, and I learned about how ecosystem dynamics can be disrupted by the introduction of a nonnative species.
My project portrays an aesthetically pleasing visualization of several …

A venomous void pierces the present.
Emanating from the past, echoing to the future.
Seething sensations burrowing beneath the bone.
Seek a road, to not corrode.
Scribe or scribble, Scavenge salvation.
Settle cement of a new foundation.
Faceless fears fading,
weakening woes waning,
mending mentality.
Internally Inspired.
Transformation Transpired.

Verisimilitude, or the appearance of being true, is a concept I turn upside down; relating it to a guise I wear as a contemporary male in a society dictated by learned social behavior and gender norms. Cultural iconography and expected gender norms are tropes I confront within my artwork. Drawings of seemingly everyday objects act as meditations or a fetishized repetition of supposed unobtainable objects and ideals that deal with masculine societal norms. Manliness, machismo, masculinity… it is all a culturally learned and expected pose placed on all men. Coming to the realization that I do not necessarily fit …

School of Art, Art History, and Design: Theses and Student Creative Work
When I was growing up, both my parents worked at a U-Haul from which they brought home discarded objects to the house my dad built with his own hands. This home, interior and exterior, was not designed to fit an explicit aesthetic, but all aspects of the house were in harmony and completed by the objects brought into each space. The house became a repository for abandoned domestic American culture— beds, window blinds, couches, appliances, and other products made it into the home in irregular but frequent intervals. For me, each item was an opportunity to have something new to …
