Ratnesh Dwivedi
Advertising is paid communication through a medium in which the sponsor is identified and the message is controlled. Every major medium is used to deliver these messages, including: television, radio, movies, magazines, newspapers, the Internet and today’s growing mobile advertising. Advertisements can also be seen on the seats of grocery carts, on the walls of an airport walkway, on the sides of buses, heard in telephone hold messages and instore PA systems but get paid for reading SMS on our mobile phones .It is the new way of marketing strategy for reaching subscribers. The Indian television system is one of the most extensive systems in the world. Terrestrial broadcasting, which has been the sole preserve of the government, provides television coverage to over 90% of India's 900 million people. By the end of 1996 nearly 50 million households had television sets. International satellite broadcasting, introduced in 1991, has swept across the country because of the rapid proliferation of small scale cable systems. By the end of 1996, Indians could view dozens of foreign and local channels and the competition for audiences and advertising revenues was one of the hottest in the world. In …

Community Radio:History,Growth,Challenges And Current Status Of It With Special Reference To India, Ratnesh Dwivedi Mr
Ratnesh Dwivedi
Community radio is a type of radio service that caters to the interests of a certain area, broadcasting content that is popular to a local audience but which may often be overlooked by commercial or mass-media broadcasters. Modern-day community radio stations often serve their listeners by offering a variety of content that is not necessarily provided by the larger commercial radio stations. Community radio outlets may carry news and information programming geared toward the local area, particularly immigrant or minority groups that are poorly served by other major media outlets. Philosophically two distinct approaches to community radio can be discerned, …

Ratnesh Dwivedi
The history of communication dates back to the earliest signs of cavemen.Communication can range from very subtle processes of exchange, to full conversations and mass communication. Human communication was revolutionized with speech perhaps 200,000 years ago, Symbols were developed about 30,000 years ago and writing about 7,000. On a much shorter scale, there have been major developments in the field of telecommunication in the past few centuries.
Contemporary Judaica – Anika Smulovitz, Anika Smulovitz
Contemporary Judaica – Anika Smulovitz, Anika Smulovitz
Anika Smulovitz
Jewish ritual objects hold the essence of Jewish life and culture. Creating contemporary Judaica allows me to examine contemporary issues through the Jewish tradition. It is not a religious interest that draws me towards making Judaica, but a cultural interest and an interest as a silversmith in creating work that has a ritual function. Through making Judaica I bring together my interest in academic research of religion and my interest in creating functional ritual objects. I am drawn to functional objects because of their interactive qualities. The people who use these objects, understand them both visually and tactilely, and relate …

A Man And His Mosaics: Owatonna Native Michael Swere Stumbled Onto A Profession In The Art World Starting, With All Things, Cereal Boxes, Melissa F. Kaelin
Melissa F. Kaelin
Sweere is a mosaic artist. It’s a profession he stumbled upon after about 20 years of work as an art director for an advertising agency. For decades, he designed packaging for companies like ConAgra, General Mills and Pillsbury — work which resulted in piles of cereal boxes and other assorted samples lying around his office and his home. Anxious to reuse and recycle, Sweere saved the samples for a rainy day, and soon began to tease artwork out of them.

Tradition And Innovation: Extremeñan Connections And Collaborations, Jo Farb Hernandez
Tradition And Innovation: Extremeñan Connections And Collaborations, Jo Farb Hernandez
Jo Farb Hernandez
The writer discusses the collaboration between California artist Sam Hernández and the Moreno León family from Extremadura, Spain, who create tinajas, monumental ceramic storage vessels. While Hernández approached this collaboration with admiration for the elegance of the traditional tinaja, and respect for the Moreno León ceramists, the innovation in superimposing his own images led to a totally new set of sculptures that, though linked to his earlier oeuvre, are markedly different from it. By recontextualizing the tinaja into a contemporary narrative through the overlay of his chosen subject matter, he shifted the collaboration into a new territory, as, at the …

Environmental Design And Emerging Technologies: Today And The Near Future, Joseph S. Clark, Lindsay Tan
Joseph S Clark
Technological advances over the past 10 years have caused some significant changes to the design of the built environment. These developments, and others like them, promise to change more than just how we design; they will very likely change what we design as well. The authors will present the connection between these developments in a way that projects, realistically, how technology will affect, and are employed by, the design professions in the next five to ten years. Further, the authors will address the promises and pitfalls of embracing virtual environments as the domain of environmental design.

Designing, Producing And Enacting Nationalisms: Contemporary Amerindian Fashion In Canada, Cory Willmott
Designing, Producing And Enacting Nationalisms: Contemporary Amerindian Fashion In Canada, Cory Willmott
Cory A. Willmott
Today, generations after the adoption of European styles, Amerindian peoples’ everyday clothing is almost indistinguishable from that of other residents of North America. Until recently their culturally distinct clothing has been mainly reserved for ceremonial occasions such as powwows and religious rituals. This bifurcation of clothing styles and contexts parallels the dichotomy between ‘traditional’ and ‘assimilated’ Native identity that has been imposed by the dominant society. The dichotomy is a double bind: adopting ‘traditional’ identities, Native peoples are cast into a static ahistorical frame, while appearing ‘assimilated’ erases cultural distinctiveness. In both cases, Native peoples cannot effectively stake claims to …

Where Book Art And Technology Mingle, Peter D. Verheyen, Richard Minsky
Peter D Verheyen
Interview of Peter D. Verheyen by Richard Minsky. Peter Verheyen, conservator, bookbinder, and creator of the Books Arts Web, discusses the current state of book arts. Although he creates impeccable fine bindings that have won international awards, Peter Verheyen's huge contribution to the field of book art has little to do with making or conserving physical books. His magum opus is the Book Arts Web (philobiblon.com), the main location on the Internet for book art information and resources, from online exhibitions to tutorials, opportunities, blogs, and reference materials.

Now, with Bookbinding & Conservation: A Sixty-year Odyssey of Art and Craft we can read about how he came to enter this field, was influenced by his teachers and mentors, and how he helped shape the world of bookbinding and conservation.
"Bookbinding & Conservation: A Sixty-year Odyssey of Art and Craft" contains a forward by Bernard Middleton, another leader in the field, and one who needs little introduction himself. It is …
