Work For '10 Squared: 100 Artists Celebrate Utep's Centennial', Anne M. Giangiulio
Work For '10 Squared: 100 Artists Celebrate Utep's Centennial', Anne M. Giangiulio
Anne M. Giangiulio
I was invited as one of 100 artists to create a 10" x 10" work to commemorate the Centennial of the University of Texas at El Paso as part of the exhibition "10 Squared" by the Rubin Center for the Visual Arts. I created an original design proclaiming "Go Miners!" in reverse backstitch embroidered on stretched burlap. All proceeds from the sale supported the Rubin Center's education and outreach programming, bringing the experience of contemporary art to a diverse and growing audience of all ages.

This text is a written articulation of my MFA thesis show entitled Corporeal Thresholds. It aims to share the poignant moments that inspired the work and contextualizes my practice within the framework of metaphysics and the phenomenology of perception. Specific topics include the body and the visceral, doubt and certainty, love and loss, and the defining spaces that influence our lives.

Chalk The Block 2013 Poster, Anne Giangiulio
Anne M. Giangiulio
I designed this poster for the annual Chalk the Block event which took place October 11–October 13, 2013 in downtown El Paso. For the pop-up gallery component of the event, I organized a group of 6 students from my 'Graphic Design 4: Typography' class at The University of Texas at El Paso. Their posters were judged and selected to be on sale in a downtown space, previously a vacant restaurant, which had been converted into a gallery for the three-day weekend event. All proceeds from the sale of the posters went directly to the students.

War Baby / Love Child: Mixed Race Asian American Art, Laura Kina, Wei Ming Dariotis
War Baby / Love Child: Mixed Race Asian American Art, Laura Kina, Wei Ming Dariotis
Laura Kina
War Baby / Love Child examines hybrid Asian American identity through a collection of essays, artworks, and interviews at the intersection of critical mixed race studies and contemporary art. The book pairs artwork and interviews with nineteen emerging, mid-career, and established mixed race/mixed heritage Asian American artists, including Li-lan and Kip Fulbeck, with scholarly essays exploring such topics as Vietnamese Amerasians, Korean transracial adoptions, and multiethnic Hawai’i. As an increasingly ethnically ambiguous Asian American generation is coming of age in an era of “optional identity,” this collection brings together first-person perspectives and a wider scholarly context to shed light on …

'A Century Of Transformations' Exhibit Design, Anne M. Giangiulio
Anne M. Giangiulio
I designed this bilingual exhibit for the Centennial Museum located on the campus of The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) to commemorate the University's Centennial in 2014. 'A Century of Transformations' follows the Texas School of Mines and Metallurgy, which opened as a mining school in 1914, and evolved into the University of Texas at El Paso, a nationally recognized research university. Featuring over 40 text panels in English and Spanish, as well as video slideshows and an interactive sticky note feedback wall, the exhibit highlights the University’s rich history and traditions. It also features significant milestones, distinguished …

Installation Art - Frenzy Episode | Contact | Raising The Dead, Agnieszka Golda, Martin V. Johnson, Ruth Fazakerley
Agnieszka Golda
This monograph presents a series of three exhibitions developed collaboratively by Agnieszka Golda and Martin Johnson. It describes a wonderful tracery of not quite recognisable anthropomorphic creatures who inhabit oddly constructed and disjointed spaces. Together Golda and Johnson have utilised crocheted and printed textiles, carved wood and painted aluminium to form strange dwellings, figures and passages. Dr Ruth Fazakerley's research and art practice span Australian contemporary urban public art, painting and sculptural installation. In her essay here she positions Golda and Johnson's work in a wider context. The distinctive aesthetic force of collaborative process is underpinned by Golda's discerning scholarship …

Platten En Perkament, Peter D. Verheyen, Marlene Hoogeveen (Translator)
Peter D Verheyen
Translation into Dutch for Handboekbinden (Journal of the Stichting Handboekbinden) by Marlene Hoogeveen of: Peter D. Verheyen. "Vellum on Boards" The Guild of Book Workers Journal 39 (2004).
Vellum is arguably one of the most beautiful binding materials in use, and at the same time one of the least used in modern design bindings. While it is often used in limp bindings, its use “over hard boards” has been much more limited. A study of the bookbinding literature reveals it being covered in-depth to a larger degree in German language trade manuals than in English. This could explain their seemingly …
