This paper explores the human-AI system co-creativity for building narrative worlds (NWs) through active human-machine collaboration. It proposes a hypothesis of structuring a narrative world for the AI system, working on the gap between the main disciplines of Design Studies and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). Through the lens of the creative collaboration between humans and AI, this paper finds the emerging field of Interactive Digital Narrative (IDN) that stands in the abovementioned gap. Although much of human experience is qualitative, front-end design documentation typically defaults to quantification which can abstract, dilute or lose meaning and reasoning with regards to lived experiences. Narratives are a well-established channel for gathering rich qualitative insights around individual and collective experiences, perceptions and values. Design thinking concepts such as framing, storytelling, and co-evolution, have been widely identified as part of design activity though generally have been evidenced from manual coding of design conversations and close reading of transcripts. The increase in easy-to-use computational linguistic methodologies provides an opportunity not only to validate these concepts, but compare them to other kinds of activity in large datasets. However, the process of systematically identifying such concepts in design conversation is not straightforward. This paper is a summary of the analyzed experiences collected from ‘social implementation projects’ which started as participatory design workshops. Since there is very little research done on social implementation methods based on these kinds of workshops outcome, this study aims to review the projects that were successfully implemented and clarify the factors leading to their successful social realization. This poster will illustrate the student engaged experience utilized by Kansas State University for its Multicultural Student Center. It will delineate the campus "community" partnership and the empowerment process initiated by the multicultural student organizations that led to the preliminary building design and fundraising strategies by the University. It will also address how multiple communities in a university can engage in a creative, collaborative process that not only fosters inclusion but also student learning. Ultimately, it shows how student collaboration with University Administration can result in both intended and unexpected outcomes for all involved, especially impacts for beyond stated expectations.

This is a story of design – of designing a viable present in transition from an increasingly obsolete past to a transformative future. More specifically, Karl Aspelund’s seven design process steps (2010) provided the framework for our curriculum redesign at a typical American Land Grant University. This study examined pedagogical aspects of virtual designing. It focused on how an industrial design teacher organized a plastic product design course and how the teacher guided student teams’ design processes in a virtual design studio. The model of Learning by Collaborative Designing was used as a pedagogical and analytical framework. The study employed qualitative content analysis of the teacher’s notes posted to the Moodle database. The results indicated that teaching exhibited three characteristic emphases: problem driven, solution driven and procedural driven. This study verified whether the students who received multidisciplinary education can be considered to have attained more creative problem-solving abilities than the students who majored only in design, based on their completion of a project after teaming with students from various other departments. When it is heterogeneous and in the in-depth discussion stage, the EMT (heterogeneous teams, including multidisciplinary design major) produced more creative output than the EDT (heterogeneous team, including design-only major) as a result of an experiment. By approaching the Repertory Grid as an exploratory design game and drawing on insight in diagrammatic reasoning we argue that this approach is useful in supporting team work in the design process.
