This student-run weekly newspaper was known simply as R.I.S.D., or RISD Paper. The RISD Paper ran through the late 1960s and into the 1970s. The issue of December 15, 1969 had a letter about saving Carr House, the student run coffee house. There also were Student Board notes, a recipe, and events for RISD students. A memo from John Lincoln, Dean of Students was also included concerning the Freshman Foundation department.

Ads, and calendar events for RISD students were also in this issue.

The issue of November 24, 1969 included an article about the RISD presidential inauguration. Also there were articles about a meeting for ecology action in Rhode Island, an temporary emergency shelter at the RISD farm, and space concerns on campus. A recipe, art exhibitions and a calendar of events for RISD students was also included.

The need for a central gathering place on campus for students was also mentioned. A poem and a calendar of events for RISD students was also included.

The issue of November 3, 1969 had information about a grade poll, a march in favor of the grape boycott and an opportunity to create and design the RISD Commencement ceremony. Also included was the question of funding for RISD students to attend a ceramic convention at Penn State.

Also there was an article about Woods Gerry mansion being renovated for administration offices and gallery space. President Rantoul and the RISD Board of Trustees would have to decide about this on October 29.

This issue from October 10, 1969 featured a letter from a student at WPI who wanted to have a newspaper column exchange and a short article about a sick child in Providence. Also there was a journal entry and information about College Work Study. Photos, a poem and a calendar of events for RISD students were also included.

Student activism and a calendar for the moratorium events was also included. A calendar of events for RISD students was also in this issue.

The Designer's News was a student-run weekly newspaper published in the late 1960s. The issue of May 19-25, 1969 featured an article about the RISD Landscape Architecture department's study to save Block Island, RI. There also was an interview with John Torres about summer programs at RISD and at a school in Vermont, and an article about a RISD photo student who taught local pre-teens about photography. Also included was an article about the Rhode Island Art Festival and some RISD students who were volunteering their time to help.

The Designer was a student newspaper published in 1942. Three issues remain today. The first two issues are written by typewriter on loose sheaves of paper. The issue of May 12-18, 1969 included articles about Apparel Design's annual show Collection 1969, and an article about Man and his Technology, a seminar that was attended by 250 people. There was a brief article about racial troubles at Hope High School in Providence that was from a publication called EXTRA. Comics, ads, letters and art exhibits were also mentioned.

Scrapbooks

Betty Wiseman graduated from Belmont College and began teaching health and physical education in 1966. She was the founder and coach of the Belmont women’s basketball team, the Rebelettes (now Bruins), in 1968. At the time, it was one of the first women’s collegiate teams in the southeast. She was inducted into the Belmont Athletics Hall of Fame in 1981. She was also inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in 2004. Wiseman coached the women’s team for 16 years (1968-1984) before moving into athletic administration at Belmont. She served as Assistant Athletics Director until her retirement in 2013. …
