International Terrorism And Television Channels:Operation And Regulation Of Tv News Channel During Coverage Of Terrorism, Ratnesh Dwivedi Mr Dec 2012

International Terrorism And Television Channels:Operation And Regulation Of Tv News Channel During Coverage Of Terrorism, Ratnesh Dwivedi Mr

Ratnesh Dwivedi

The concept of globalization or internationalization of certain wars, which were result of terrorist activities worldwide , as well as the high attention of terrorism coverage broadcast worldwide might open up better opportunities to journalists – particularly to those who work in democratic countries like U.S.A and India – to improve their coverage. The context is the key: the context of the operation methodology, follow of guidelines of regulatory bodies, and of the journalistic culture and of the global environment. It is very important how media presents consequences of terrorist acts, how information is transmitted to public. Television and press have …

Myth Materialized: Thirteenth Century Additions To The West Façade Of San Marco And Their Value In Venetian History Making, Michelle Reynolds Nov 2012

Myth Materialized: Thirteenth Century Additions To The West Façade Of San Marco And Their Value In Venetian History Making, Michelle Reynolds

Michelle Reynolds

The focus of this paper is on the basilica of San Marco in Venice and its relationship to the political and social culture in which it was erected. Looking directly at the set of four horses placed high above the five main entrances and the mosaics of the transfer of Saint Mark’s relics to Venice which originally decorated these portals in the thirteenth century, this paper looks to discover connections between these rather unique designs and stylistic choices and the unique sense of identity the Venetians had long perpetuated. The two different groups of works illuminate deliberate stylistic connections to …

White Snake, Black Snake Folk Narrative Meets Master Narrative In Qing Dynasty Sichuanese Cross-Stitch Medallions, Cory Willmott Oct 2012

White Snake, Black Snake Folk Narrative Meets Master Narrative In Qing Dynasty Sichuanese Cross-Stitch Medallions, Cory Willmott

Cory A. Willmott

The cross-stitch medallion in figure 1 was collected by my grandmother, Katherine Willmott, in the early 1920s when she was a missionary in Renshow, Sichuan Province, West China. Many years after I inherited it, I learned that it depicts a folk narrative called “White Snake; Black Snake” that was traditionally performed both on stage in the legitimate theaters and in Chinese shadow puppet dramas (Highbaugh n/d:6).

The story may be summarized as follows: There were two female snakes, White Snake and Black Snake, who were inseparable friends. They both changed into beautiful young women. White Snake got married and bore …

Best Source For Patent Drawing Rules & Regulations, Bernadette Marshall

Bernadette Marshall

It is with great pleasure that I announce something new from NBG-Drafting and Design. This is our first Newsletter - Special Edition; In this edition we will cover our preferred sources for patent drawing rules & regulations. Finding resources for information regarding patent drawing rules can be frustrating. Much of the information refers to out-of-date methods, like hand drawings using ink pens on board. It is hard to imaging creating any type of mechanical/technical drawings today without the use of CADD (software application for computer aided design and drafting). Most skilled patent draftspersons today are practicing in CADD.

World Of Golf: A Socially Relevant Simulation Game, Ramin Tadayon, Winslow Burleson, Ashish Amresh

Ashish Amresh

Socially Relevant Simulation Games (SRSG), a new medium for social interaction, based on real-world skills and skill development, creates a single gaming framework that connects both serious and casual players. Through a detailed case study this paper presents a design process and framework for SRSG, in the context of mixed-reality golf swing simulations. The "World of Golf" SRSG utilizes a real-time expert system to capture, analyze, and evaluate golf swing metrics combining swing data and players' backgrounds, e.g., golf-handicaps, to form individual profiles. Simulation and assessment modules provide the serious player with tools to build golf skills while allowing casual …

An Analytical Study Of 'Sanskrit' And 'Panini' As Foundation Of Speech Communication In India And World, Ratnesh Dwivedi Mr

Ratnesh Dwivedi

samskrtam or for short sanskrit or samskrtā vāk is an ancient sacred language of bharatavarsha that is the language of Hinduism and the Vedas and is the classical literary language of India. The name Sanskrit means "refined", "consecrated" and "sanctified". It has always been regarded as the 'high' language and used mainly for religious and scientific discourse. There are still hundreds of millions of people who use Sanskrit in their daily lives, but despite these numbers, its cultural worth is unsurpassed. The language name samskrtam is derived from the past participle saṃskṛtaḥ 'self-made, self-done' of the verb saṃ(s)kar- 'to make …

Radio In India:The Fm Revolution And Its Impact On Indian Listeners, Ratnesh Dwivedi Mr Jun 2012

Radio In India:The Fm Revolution And Its Impact On Indian Listeners, Ratnesh Dwivedi Mr

Ratnesh Dwivedi

If you ask most people who invented Radio, the name Marconi comes to mind. Usually KDKA Pittsburgh is the response when you ask about the first Radio station. But are these really Radio's firsts? In the interest of curiosity and good journalism, we set out to determine if these were in fact Radio's firsts. Broadcasting began in India with the formation of a private radio service in Madras (presently Chennai) in 1924. In the very same year, British colonial government approved a license to a private company, the Indian Broadcasting Company, to inaugurate Radio stations in Bombay and Kolkata. The …

Installation Art - Frenzy Episode | Contact | Raising The Dead, Agnieszka Golda, Martin V. Johnson, Ruth Fazakerley

Agnieszka Golda

This monograph presents a series of three exhibitions developed collaboratively by Agnieszka Golda and Martin Johnson. It describes a wonderful tracery of not quite recognisable anthropomorphic creatures who inhabit oddly constructed and disjointed spaces. Together Golda and Johnson have utilised crocheted and printed textiles, carved wood and painted aluminium to form strange dwellings, figures and passages. Dr Ruth Fazakerley's research and art practice span Australian contemporary urban public art, painting and sculptural installation. In her essay here she positions Golda and Johnson's work in a wider context. The distinctive aesthetic force of collaborative process is underpinned by Golda's discerning scholarship …

A Decisive Social Media: Domination Of Social Media In Deciding News Content-A Case Study Of American Media And Trayvon Martin Tragedy, Ratnesh Dwivedi Mr

Ratnesh Dwivedi

More than a quarter of Americans (27%) now get news on mobile devices, and for the vast majority, this is increasing news consumption, the report finds. More than 80% of smartphone and tablet news consumers still get news on laptop or desktop computers. On mobile devices, news consumers also are more likely to go directly to a news site or use an app, rather than to rely on search — strengthening the bond with traditional news brands. Almost immediately after the February 26 shooting of Trayvon Martin, the conversation about the case began simmering on Twitter. But it was nearly …

Designing An Information-Experience Using Creativity Science & Tools, Stephanie Belhomme

Stephanie Belhomme

An “information-experience” encapsulated by a technological/digital audio-visual tool presents data and potentially meaningful information to prompt actionable knowledge concerning: “unspoken creative process elements;” their profound impacts on both how well our “physiology of creativity” functions but also; how well foundational creative thinking and behavioral prerequisites (energy, motivation, imagination, and ownership) are leveraged.

The product: 1) introduces the user to one component of the CPS (Creative Problem Solving) Facilitation Process - Exploring the Challenge; 2) features a content specific component which prompts exploration of the many correlations between societal, organizational / community, human physiological / behavioral data, and the direct relationships …

Higher Education In India : The Glory Of Past,The Challenges Of Today And The Road For Tomorrow, Ratnesh Dwivedi Mr

Ratnesh Dwivedi

Universal education of all children in literacy has been a recent development, not occurring in many countries until after 1850 CE. Even today, in some parts of the world, literacy rates are below 60 per cent (for example, in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh). Schools, colleges and universities have not been the only methods of formal education and training. Many professions have additional training requirements, and in Europe, from the Middle Ages until recent times, the skills of a trade were not generally learnt in a classroom, but rather by serving an apprenticeship. Each generation, since the beginning of human existence, has …

Iconographic Method And The Development Of Emerging Garden’S Identity, Mina Kaboudarahangi, Osman Mohd Tahir, Mustafa Kamal M.S Apr 2012

Iconographic Method And The Development Of Emerging Garden’S Identity, Mina Kaboudarahangi, Osman Mohd Tahir, Mustafa Kamal M.S

Mina Kaboudarahangi

Garden design has been described as a category of fine arts with a long association with landscape painting. Thus, gardens can be considered as a work of art due to their artistic nature and value. Accordingly, like other artistic artefacts, they can be studied and recognized by their specific icons. This is very true for a number of well-known gardens in the world, like Persian, English, Japanese and Chinese gardens, which are recognized through their individual icons. However, emerging gardens still do not possess any icons that people can identify them with. Consequently, there is a need for these gardens …

Pragmatism And Compromise In Conservation, Peter D. Verheyen Mar 2012

Pragmatism And Compromise In Conservation, Peter D. Verheyen

Peter D Verheyen

I write this from the perspective of an apprentice-trained bookbinder and conservator who has spent most of his career working in academic research libraries in the US, work that has included working primarily with special collections, but also heavily used circulating collections and digitization. During this time I have also worked with many other conservators, interns from conservation/preservation programs and students of museum studies and librarianship. While the mission ensuring the long-term health of and continued access to the Library’s collections has not changed, how we do that work and prioritize activities has. This has been a result of changes …

Robin L. Imhof

At the University of the Pacific Library, a work of art is being used to raise the visibility of one of its unique special collections. A photographic mural in the library’s study commons offers an artistic tribute to the naturalist John Muir, whose papers are housed in the library’s Holt-Atherton Special Collections department. The series of events that led to its installation provided unique opportunities to forge partnerships between the library and a variety of people and units within the campus community. As a result, the study commons features artwork that provides this learning space with aesthetic beauty as well …

The Aesthetics Of Copyright Adjudication, Glen Cheng Jan 2012

The Aesthetics Of Copyright Adjudication, Glen Cheng

Glen Cheng

The American legal system is unable to continue avoiding the question of art versus non-art. In particular, questions of copyrightability often hinge on art-status. Yet art is a constantly evolving, reflexive field in which artists and philosophers continually challenge the status quo. Judges would benefit from analyzing claims to art-status under the objectivity provided by well-developed aesthetic theories, aided by expert testimony when needed. After reviewing several major philosophies of art, this article proposes a framework for adjudicating art-status based on an aesthetic theory known as the Historical Definition of Art. Furthermore, to balance copyright law's purpose of protecting innovation …
