In 1998 Dublin Institute of Technology formed a partnership with the Sherkin Island Development Society to deliver a pilot programme in Art and Culture on an offshore island in the Atlantic. Developed around the needs of the local community the programme utilised a combination of live and remote teaching methods built around a series of intense workshops. The paper traces the genesis of the project and addresses three main questions: what it cost; what resources were required; and how it might be sustained. Exhibition Notes, Number 14, Spring 2001. What Is Really Free? Acts of kindness and the stories people tell: an Interview. Between February and June of this year, Indira Freitas Johnson traveled each week from the Chicago area to work with a literacy group at the Knight Memorial Branch of the Providence Public Library. The artist discusses her Master of Fine Arts exhibition at East Tennessee State University, Carroll Reece Museum, Johnson City, Tennessee, March 9 - 17, 2001. The exhibition marked her return to organic, gestural work. Works are figurative, ceramic, sculpture, made of paper clay, ranging from 8-inch, wall mounted, bas-relief to life sized, full round figures. Most are slab constructed, unglazed or lightly glazed with soda wash.

Discovery Through Numeric Strata: A Balance Of Form And Aesthetics., Marc Ian Sonenberg

This thesis is in support of my Master of Fine Arts exhibition in the Carroll Reece Museum at East Tennessee State University. It describes a body of work that strives for a balance of form and aesthetics. Chapter 1 charts how I refined my personal stylistic qualities. Chapter 2 gives a brief overview of the history of ceramics techique. Chapter 3 discusses the surface treatment and construction of the pieces in the show. Chapter 4 presents each piece in chronological order.

Young Geniuses And Old Masters: The Life Cycles Of Great Artists From Masaccio To Jasper Johns, David W. Galenson, Robert Jensen

There have been two very different life cycles for great artists: some have made their greatest contributions very early in their careers, whereas others have produced their best work late in their lives. These two patterns have been associated with different working methods, as art's young geniuses have worked deductively to make conceptual innovations, while its old masters have worked inductively, to innovate experimentally. We demonstrate the value of this typology by considering the careers of four great conceptual innovators - Masaccio, Raphael, Picasso, and Johns - and five great experimental innovators - Michelangelo, Titian, Rembrandt, Cézanne, and Pollock.
