This chapter illustrates the unique cross-sector visual arts exchange program between Cuba and the U.S. This collaborative project is situated in the Cuban educational perspective of Pedagogía de la Ternura (Pedagogy of Tenderness) and La Cláse Magica (Magical Class), contextually driven bilingual model for diverse student population in the U.S. The role of art in Cuban context of national and cultural identity is also discussed. The CreArte in Cuba, a voluntary cultural community inspired organization, aims to improve the cultural life and the realities of all the local participants. Letters of artist Joseph Dudley Downing to Riley Handy, Kentucky Museum, WKU, regarding an exhibition of his work that opened at the museum on 28 March 1993. Downing discusses the content of the exhibition, associated printed matter and the return of unsold items, and provides background on the works “Isidore’s Door,” “Michael’s Door,” “The Window of Arthemise Fougerousse” and “The Chicken Bones.” Includes an unidentifed commentary on some of his paintings, and a list of 11 works to be exhibited.
