A Journey Into My Mind, Shen Chen Hsieh May 2019

A Journey Into My Mind, Shen Chen Hsieh

MSU Graduate Theses

During my time as a student in the MFA in Visual Study Program, I have been interested in creating imagery that expresses my inner world that is based on my emotional experience. I believe my identity is influenced by my multi-cultural background, relationships, daily moments and my own introverted personality. I continue to experiment with various mediums and visual styles to communicate these feelings. Drawing, silk-screen printing, mixed media, and three-dimensional sculpture are the main mediums in my artwork. Exploring diverse mediums provides me opportunities to develop my self exploration in my images. I seek to express and understand the ...

The Soft Animal Of Your Body: Seven Attempts To Explain Chronic Illness To Myself And To You, June Naureckas

Senior Projects Fall 2018

THE SOFT ANIMAL OF YOUR BODY – ARTIST’S STATEMENT

If I knew how to explain vision loss or chronic pain, I wouldn’t have started this senior project.

How do I communicate the knowledge that my body is slowly failing me, that even the best treatments aren’t guaranteed to work? With whom do I have to speak with to be heard and understood? I’ve previously attempted dictionary definitions, disability accommodation letters from the Bard Learning Commons, repeatedly cancelling plans with friends until they stop inviting me to things, and passive-aggressive conversations with my neurologist. None of these efforts ...

His most prominent public commissions include sculpture for the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial and the Woodrow Wilson Memorial, both in Washington D.C., and the Holocaust Memorial in Ann Arbor, MI. Baskin received numerous honors, among them a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Gold Medal of the National Academy of Arts and Letters, and ...

Unspinning And A Constant Whirring, Laura Marina Salgarolo Jan 2016

Unspinning And A Constant Whirring, Laura Marina Salgarolo

Senior Projects Spring 2016

My senior thesis project is a living workspace and reading environment, housing a library of books and ephemera. This collection includes a series of books I made by hand, the foremost of which is a picture book I have written and illustrated. The books are “guarded” by several small librarian characters I invented and sculpted, and are shelved alongside classified and labeled ephemera and found objects. My aim has been to construct an environment for this library with a lamp-lit reading space and a work desk covered in process work and sketches. The exhibit will represent the merging and hybridization ...

The Art Institute Of Boston Course Catalog (1973), The Art Institute Of Boston

Course Catalogs-Art Institute of Boston (AIB)

The Art Institute of Boston maintains, and always has maintained throughout the course of its long history, that the artist holds a unique position of responsibility in his society. Because the weight of his contribution is so widely felt in this age of the expanded media, the artist is expected to be not only innovator, but also arbitrator. The decisions which affect his life and his work influence a wide body of people who look to him for illumination.

Art cannot be taught as a development of certain visual talents separate from a larger awareness of life. The Art Institute ...

In January of 1968 The School of Practical Art changed its name to The Art Institute of Boston as an outward sign of the diversity of ideas and interests that had generated during the past decade. The combined efforts of students, teachers, and administrators have produced a broad program which attracts students with a variety of goals, and affords an opportunity to study in several different disciplines.
