When we see an image, by here I mean a visual image such as a photograph, film or video, we perceive it at its surface, just like when we approach a physical object, we experience the physical surface of it. My project and research focus on digital image, which manifests the virtual materiality at the image surface. Creature design and sculpture is about representing life with three dimensions. To begin designing a creature, the process begins by looking at real life. Studies of existing wildlife and anatomy reference provided the foundation for the creation process. The goal of this project was to study creature design and attempt creating feasible results. The background and location origin of these creatures are based on the environmental location of Arizona. The goal was creating and rendering four creatures with the attempt of achieving fantasy realism.

Insects are vital to an ecosystem. They pollinate fruit blossoms and vegetables; insects feed on an endless range of food, which helps an ecosystem with decomposition; some insects are even used as a form of pest-control. Unfortunately many people tend to overlook the importance of insects and the study of entomology.
