As a Research and Instruction Librarian, one of the most frequent questions I'm asked is how to find past theses on a particular topic or theme. There is an active thesis culture at RISD that goes beyond writing and binding a text. An exhibition is held in the graduate gallery to celebrate a curated selection of theses at the beginning of the academic year. (See Book of Thesis Books) Theses can range in format from an artist book to a loose-leaf portfolio. Many emphasize the visual and are a bridge to the student’s studio work. This was a two-part project that included a research element and a creative element. The essay paper includes research in multiple areas within illustration in children’s literature including the history of how illustration has developed in children’s literature, some of the methods in which children’s illustrations are created, and the psychology behind the effects of illustration in children’s literature.

The second part of the project was the creation of a children’s book. This book is designed to educate readers on the basics of illustration methods and to inspire children to value creation and creativity!

This panel explores how the lover’s leap narrative and its representation of Native American figures has been used to forge distinctive visions of public memory both in and beyond Winona, Minnesota. For most, details of the lover’s leap are reduced to Wenonah’s fatal action, specifically how she protested her family’s rigid customs of arranged marriage by jumping to her death from a bluff atop the Mississippi River. There is a disorder that is rather common within the world and yet is not well known. It is a something that affects one in every twenty-six individuals. It is called epilepsy. Epilepsy is a neurological disorder in which a person to experience bursts of random electrical activity within their brains, these bursts being called "seizures." This article discusses this disorder and goes into detail about the forms of it, procedures that are done to try and help those living with epilepsy, and artwork that is inspired by this disorder.

In this presentation, Marissa Gutierrez-Vicario will speak about her work with Art and Resistance Through Education (ARTE), a New York-based non-governmental organization that works to amplify the voices of young people for human rights change through the visual arts. ARTE works in public schools, with community organizations, and in carceral facilities. In doing so, we use Suchman’s notion of the affiliative object to reframe medical identification jewellery as a compound epistemic object with affiliations to paramedics in the province of Ontario, Canada.
