What do community interpreting for the Deaf in western societies, conference interpreting for the European Parliament, and language brokering in international management have in common? Academic research and professional training have historically emphasized the linguistic and cognitive challenges of interpreting, neglecting or ignoring the social aspects that structure communication. All forms of interpreting are inherently social; they involve relationships among at least three people and two languages. The RISD Rag was a student publication released in the spring of 1972, first on a monthly basis and later on a bi-weekly basis. The issue of March 23, 1972 included an article with photographs about RISD students who traveled to Mexico for Wintersession. Also there was a reply from Dean Donald Lay about RISD improvements to a letter from a RISD student. A small article about organic food stores in Providence was also included. Poems, letter to the editor including one about renovating Carr Haus and events for RISD students also were included.
