Kiddush Levana, The Moon Is Your Handheld Mirror, Noa Ginzburg

Noa Ginzburg is weaving cast-off and hand-made objects, lights, reflections, spells, drawings, and an abundance of knots into site-responsive installations. In her thesis, Ginzburg addresses Hieronymus Bosch’s paintings, the synergy of assemblages, repurposing of materials in the era of Anthropocene, and how notions of solidarity and indeterminacy influence her work.

Artist Viola Bordon examines the processes of touch, unmaking, and materially dictated aesthetics regarding her studio practice. The philosophical ideas of absence are used to establish a purpose for undoing, which is then explored as a learning process. This process is complicated by the sense of touch, resulting in formal aesthetics that are materially inspired.

Through this essay I describe the theoretical and anthropological ideas that led to the creation of the Cushing Series. An interest in the obsession with photography in popular culture leads to an understanding of the permeation of structured reasoning beyond scientific research and into everyday life. Taking evidence from photography, and philosophy of science I establish the limitations of structured reasoning, both as a way of perceiving the world and as an understanding of identity, and define surface and frame as its physical representation. The general problem included the art and execution of bronze sculpture. It was felt that the theory of art of bronze sculpture, or any art, could be best comprehended when substantiated by practical illustration. In order to fully realize the problem, a brief history of bronze metal and bronze sculpture was presented in addition to the research in the field of various techniques of bronze casting. The practical illustration of this study was made in the form of a composition for bronze sculpture.
