The Changing Book: Transitions In Design, Production, And Preservation, Peter D. Verheyen Dec 2008

The Changing Book: Transitions In Design, Production, And Preservation, Peter D. Verheyen

Libraries' and Librarians' Publications

This book review was originally published in the Guild of Book Workers' Newsletter, Vol 181, December, 2008. "The Changing Book: Transitions in Design Production, and Preservation publishes the proceedings of the conference of the same name organized by and held at the University of Iowa July 22-25,2005. This conference tied together many threads, from an exhibition honoring the life's work of William (Bill) Anthony, the first conservator at the University of Iowa and teacher to some of today's best, to a "tent show" which gave the public the opportunity to learn about the book arts hands-on, to ...

Peasant Communities, The First Link Of The Commodity Chain Of Vicuña Fiber, Liliana L. Lay Lisung Jan 2008

Peasant Communities, The First Link Of The Commodity Chain Of Vicuña Fiber, Liliana L. Lay Lisung

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Vicuna fiber has a high value in the textile and fashion industry and is seen on the runways of the most selective and luxurious clothing designers in Europe. However, the vicuna fiber process and commodity chain are little known. This thesis presents the commodity chain of vicuna fiber and the positive and negative impacts that vicuna fiber commercialization generates in Peruvian peasant communities. The research, based on in-depth interviews and document analysis, studies the development of this buyer-driven chain, the social actors' roles, and the policies and legislation implemented to preserve vicuna species. In response to consumption demands, the marketing ...

The Influence Of Chinese Cultural Values On Consumer Perceptions And Behavioral Intention Towards An Apparel Mass Customization Website, Kun Song Jan 2008

The Influence Of Chinese Cultural Values On Consumer Perceptions And Behavioral Intention Towards An Apparel Mass Customization Website, Kun Song

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Mass customization may deliver superior value to consumers compared to mass production because it provides personalized products with prices close to mass produced products. This assertion was made under the conditions and assumptions in Western societies where individual needs, rights, and interests are greatly valued. It is not known whether mass customization will deliver similar value to consumers in other societies, where different value systems exist. The purpose of the present study was to examine Chinese consumers' responses toward mass customization and the influence of Chinese cultural values on these responses.;This study focused on web-based apparel mass customization and ...

Effects Of Computer Self-Efficacy And Spatial Visualization Ability On Student Perceptions Of 2d/3d Cad Virtual Prototype Simulations For Apparel Design, Sandra Stewart Jan 2008

Effects Of Computer Self-Efficacy And Spatial Visualization Ability On Student Perceptions Of 2d/3d Cad Virtual Prototype Simulations For Apparel Design, Sandra Stewart

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The ability to visualize three-dimensional (3D) forms from two-dimensional (2D) shapes is critical to apparel designers. While most designers still use traditional techniques to analyze a 3D sample, advances in CAD for apparel design include use of 3D virtual prototypes assembled from 2D pattern data. Textiles and clothing research has examined both 2D CAD and student spatial visualization ability, but no studies compare spatial visualization ability with 3D virtual prototype use in the classroom. Other fields of research have found that a person's computer self-efficacy (CSE) can influence acceptance of a new technology and that spatial visualization ability can ...
