Founded in 1953, Et Cetera is an annual literary magazine that publishes the creative writing and artwork of Marshall University students and affiliates. Et Cetera is free to the Marshall University community.

Et Cetera welcomes submissions in literary and film criticism, poetry, short stories, drama, all types of creative non-fiction, photography, and art.

Personal and family papers comprise a large portion of this collection. Miss Enslow collected numerous newspaper and magazine clippings on a variety of subjects, especially those dealing with socially prominent individuals on the local, national, and international levels. Too, she saved many items of correspondence between members of her family. Magazines, booklets, scrapbooks, and books are also included in this part of the collection. Most notable among the books is the Kelly Family Bible, which belonged to her maternal ancestors.

This collection predominately consists of a Civil War diary by James Potts. Legibility of the copy of the diary is limited given that it is a xeroxed black and white copy.

The cover of the diary says, “Romance of the War by James N. Potts [illegible] Commissary [illegible] Book Commencing Dec. 12th, 1861 Hunter’sville, Va, Pocahontas Co., Virginia”. The first thirty-one pages consist of a ledger tracking provisions for 1861-1862. In order, the contents after are as follows: recipes, ciphers or “enigmas”, journal entries from 1861 to 1867, an 1869 letter to the editor of the “Herald” from Williamsville, VA, …

This collection contains papers relating to Harlow’s work on “Beckley, U.S.A.”. They include photographs of people and places around Beckley (both identified and unidentified), mock-ups of front matter for the never completed fourth volume of “Beckley, U.S.A.”, printed materials and ephemera related to Beckley institutions or history.

Other materials include personal papers consisting of short form fiction snippets, a newspaper clipping file related to “Beckley, U.S.A.” and Beckley history, correspondence related to the donation of the collection, and genealogical materials.

Given the collection’s small size, the decision was made to keep the collection’s original order as found and not divide into series. Broader thematic content of the collection includes state level financial and treasurer’s papers organizing the conference as well as financial documents submitted to receive reimbursement from the IWY grant funds appropriated by Congress. Additional state materials include correspondence to and from the Treasurer for WV IWY, Betsy McCreight, publicity materials and brochures, reports, and financial material related to delegates attending the national conference.

Box 3 includes materials for the national IWY Conference, including manuals, publicity materials, and publications.

He also discusses various political figures including Alban Barkley, Happy Chandler, chief Justice Frederick Vinson, Harry Truman, Joseph McCarthy, Dwight Eisenhower, Lyndon Johnson, John F. Kennedy (and his assassination), and Barry Goldwater.
