The Kay Wildman Collection explores the history of music in Huntington, WV. This collection consists of oral histories, photographs, newspaper clippings, and research materials. In most of the oral histories you will find a copy of the interview on a CD and a typed outline of the interview. A diary by Robert Grant, a member of numerous musical groups in Huntington, can also be found in this collection. This diary covers the period of time Grant was a student at Marshall University with some additional entries that go beyond that period of time.

This collection consists of copies of the twelve volume court transcript for the case of the State of Ohio vs. William Lemaster, case no. 92-CR-61 in the court of common pleas. Lemaster was accused and convicted of the kidnapping and murder of Jeff Halley and his son Jeff Halley, Jr. The court transcript includes jury selection, exhibits, and testimony.

This collection consists of eleven pages copied from the Burlington Presbyterian Church record book containing the “Record of the Establishment Proceedings of the Presbyterian Church of Burlington, Lawrence County, Ohio.” The text includes a list of members, minutes and notes, and a list of baptisms between 1826 and 1828. It also includes copies of a more modern photograph of the church added later and a copy of a typed page about the Kanawha Presbytery, First Presbyterian Church in Huntington, West Virginia. Due to the fact that all pages are copies, legibility can vary.

This collection consists of pamphlets, papers, and other materials related to Vaughn’s practice of teaching in West Virginia. This includes books, pamphlets, and schedules related to the West Virginia Teachers’ Institute, an 1864 primer, handwriting workbooks, and other ephemera. Other materials include a 1920 almanac, an 1897 Farm and Home newspaper, religious programs and pamphlets, two postcards from students, tour books from the Chicago and New York World’s Fair in 1933 and 1939 respectively, and Washington D.C.

The collection consists primarily of two groups of letters. The first group were written by Arminda Holiday Clendenning of Freeport, Harrison County, Ohio, to her sister Ann Holliday Winder of Iowa, from 1850 until 1867. She writes of local and family news, life in the country, and later, as a young married woman, of her family and her husband’s business. Several letters mention travels and migrations of family and friends to the West.

The Campbell-Staats collection consists of two separate series of information. The first series is comprised of the Jennie Ratliff Campbell papers. These papers consist mainly of personal correspondence to Miss Ratliff dating from 1875-1888. The majority of these letter were from two particular individuals, R. G. Drysdale and W. S. Livengood, and concerned everyday occurrence and mutual acquaintances. The remainder of the series is made up of samples from her schoolwork, songs she had copied, business correspondence, and a book of poetry given to her by her fiancee, C. W. Campbell.

The Aleshire Family Papers consist mainly of correspondence dating from 1863 to 1888. Many of the letters are written by various members of the family to Joseph Aleshire as he traveled the Midwest, buying wheat for the family flour mill. Most of these letters concern fluctuations of the wheat market and other business matters.

There are a number of letters from Mary Aleshire to her parents and brothers, dating from 1863 to 1878. These describe her life at college in Cincinnati, and later, upon her return to Gallipolis, her involvement with social and family matters.

The Draper manuscripts are composed of many thousands of items in 486 volumes. They relate chiefly to the area between the Mississippi River on the west and the Hudson River and the Atlantic Ocean on the east, especially the frontier region during the period 1755-1815, and consist of original papers collected by Lyman C.
