This brief study of the role of women in the labor force of Egypt has occupied my time and attention, off and on, for about two years. While I alone am responsible for the final result, a number of people have helped reduce its deficiencies in one way or another and I owe each of them a special debt. We shall discuss this impact in two steps: First, the implications of the NIEO for the economies of the Arab countries.
