Most are written to Tennessee “Tennie” Bryan and come from friends, relatives, and ardent male admirers. Two correspondents write during their Civil War Confederate service (Click on "Additional Files" below for typescripts) and a cousin, Fannie Parkhurst, writes from Vermont. Fannie also writes to her cousin Byron in Illinois about local news and her studies, school teaching, social activities and abhorrence of intemperance; she gossips about local courtships and mentions Byron’s brother Sherman, who she would marry after Byron’s death in Union …
