Theses and Dissertations

What do we take with us? How much space should we leave in the bag for what we might find? This paper is a journey from under the rug and onto the pavement. Sowing spiderweb maps I try to make a new city my own.

The Tygr Magazine: Then And Now, Hannah Shiner, Luke Jungermann

Scholar Week 2016 - present

The Tygr presentation will focus on the collaboration between the art and English departments throughout the magazine's existence. We will present the history of the Tygr, with examples of past magazines, and talk about their format, their composition, and their shortcomings. We will examine how the Tygr has changed and grown into this new digital age and what goals we have for the future of the Tygr. We will also discuss how the Tygr is made now, closely examining the way these two departments work together to produce a product. Further time in the presentation will be dedicated to the …

Creative Writing Minor Portfolios

This portfolio, In Order to Live, includes some of the poetry and creative nonfiction pieces I wrote as a Creative Writing Minor at Cedarville University. “Printmaking” was published in the June 2015 edition of Spry, and “Deep Creek Lake” will be published in the summer anthology of Snapping Twig. The collection aims to redeem memory and salvage the sermon from previous experiences. I wrote about fingerprints, worms, grand pianos, the trinity, heartbreak, cancer and so much more to understand why any of it matters, in order to live.

Bridging The Works Of Horace, Catullus, Ovid, And Haydock, George Bishop Haydock Jun 2015

Bridging The Works Of Horace, Catullus, Ovid, And Haydock, George Bishop Haydock

Honors Theses

I wrote this thesis to explore the metrical poetry of Horace, Catullus, and Ovid, as well as my own poetry and short fiction. I parsed the Latin poems, word-by-word, and provided literal translations, as well as idiomatic translations of selected poems by Horace and Ovid. In order to link these translations to my short story, Into the Last Good Fight, I wrote three metrical poems that synthesize the themes, concepts, and structures of my story with the themes, concepts, and structures of the Latin poems. To provide an even stronger link between the Latin portion of my thesis and the …

Guides to Manuscript Collections

The Jesse Stuart Collection consists primarily of magazines given by Mr. Stuart which contain articles, stories, or poems written by him or about him. Approximately half of these items are in the original publication; the others are photoreproductions of originals lent by Mr. Stuart.

Another significant part of the collection was purchased from International Bookfinders, Inc., of Pacific Palisades, California, and includes first editions of Mr. Stuart’s works, galley proofs, and some manuscript material.

A third group of material is comprised of articles, stories, or poems written by or concerning Mr. Stuart which have been located and added to the …
