New English Canaan, Thomas Morton
New English Canaan, Thomas Morton
Maine History Documents
In 1883 the Prince Society published in very limited quantity The New English Canaan edited by Charles Francis Adams. Since then there has been no new edition of this informative and entertaining work. Adams held faithfully to the original in spelling, punctuation, and even in the use of the early in the text. His footnotes are learned, copious, and occasionally a bit irrelevant, but a number of mystifying expressions are not explained. It may simply be the short supply and relatively poor readability that have caused modern scholars to deny Morton’s work the attention that it deserves. In this edition …

History Of Aroostook, Edward Wiggin
History Of Aroostook, Edward Wiggin
Maine History Documents
So far as the writer knows the only complete compilation of facts covering the early settlement of Aroostook was one made by the late Hon. Edward Wiggin, about thirty years ago. In preparation for this record Mr. Wiggin visited every town in the County, and secured the facts comprised in his narrative largely from the pioneer settlers of each town, whose recollections were then fresh regarding their experience and the facts concerning the early settlement of their town.
This record of Mr. Wiggin, now in the custody of the Presque Isle Public Library, is in part in manuscript written in …

Tragédie D'Un Peuple; Histoire Du Peuple Acadien De Ses Origines À Nos Jours, Emile Lauvriére
Maine History Documents

Pioneers Of France In The New World, Francis Parkman
Pioneers Of France In The New World, Francis Parkman
Maine History Documents
The subject to which the proposed series will be devoted is that of " France in the New World," — the attempt of Feudalism, Monarchy, and Rome to master a continent where, at this hour, half a million of bayonets are vindicating the ascendency of a regulated freedom; — Feudalism still strong in life, though enveloped and overborne by new-born Centralization; Monarchy in the flush of triumphant power; Rome, nerved by disaster, springing with renewed vitality from ashes and corruption, and ranging the earth to reconquer abroad what she had lost at home. These banded powers, pushing into the wilderness …

It is important that our school children have a definite knowledge of the early history of our own State ; a patriotic interest in its resources and development ; some acquaintance with the men who have been leaders in our Commonwealth, and such familiarity with the laws governing the town, city, county, and State as will fit them to become intelligent citizens, safe leaders, and wise rulers.
History Of Amity Lodge, No. 6: Free And Accepted Masons, Camden, Maine, Reuel Robinson
History Of Amity Lodge, No. 6: Free And Accepted Masons, Camden, Maine, Reuel Robinson
Maine History Documents
Believing that the interesting history of Old Amity Lodge ought, in some, way to be preserved in print, lest sometime it be lost altogether, I have ventured upon the undertaking of compiling from the Lodge records and other sources, the following history of the Lodge from the first meeting of the founders in 1799, down to the present time.
Already the records of the Lodge have passed through two terrible fires, that each time destroyed almost everything else that the Lodge possessed. They were in both instances almost miraculously saved from destruction and the Lodge still has them all intact. …
