Design Disciplines In The Age Of Climate Change: Systemic Views On Current And Potential Roles, Håkan Edeholt, Jomy Joseph
DRS Biennial Conference Series
After working several years with industrial design as a tool for the kind of radical systemic change, climate change arguably requires; it now seems timely to discuss the systemic obstacles that make such a shift so hard to implement. Much at odds with current discourse, the article defends current design disciplinary skills by focusing on the tension between what designers tend to do for sustaining the present system vs. what designers could do to support transition to a radically different system and why the latter is so hard to achieve but still so urgently required. With the overarching question – …

How do children worship best? How can worship help young people through the teen and young adult years? What practices of worship resonate most with adults and elderly people? Let The Times Declare!: Socio-Demographic Shifts And The Future Of Young People In The North American Church, Elizabeth Tamez Méndez Phd
Symposium on Worship Archive
What are the times proclaiming? What are the demographic shifts clamoring for our ministries? By 2018, half the children under age eighteen will be “minorities” in the United States; with twenty-six percent being Hispanic. Youth are at the forefront of U.S. demographic changes, and churches need to consider this reality as a moment for us to seize! We have a unique opportunity to contribute to the healthy development and thriving of youth while walking alongside them toward an encounter with Christ—all amid a culturally and ethnically diverse society. In this interactive session filled with practical insights for ministry, we will …

Cities throughout the African continent have been developing at an unprecedented pace, many of them due to the influence of the tourism industry. This is particularly true in Tanzania, a country famous for its national parks and their draw to tourists who help provide money for development. However, the only way to get the whole story on how to spend this money is through the experiences and needs of the people themselves. This study focuses on a small town in northeastern Tanzania, Mto wa Mbu, situated near Lake Manyara National Park, and its people’s perceptions of the park and community. …

Liturgy That Cares, Howard Vanderwell
Liturgy That Cares, Howard Vanderwell
Symposium on Worship Archive
Some call it the “preliminaries,” some hastily put it together, and others have very elaborate liturgies. This sectional is built on the conviction that it’s time to take a thorough new look at the pastoral power of the order of worship. We will try to identify the needs worshipers bring to church, and we’ll examine the liturgy with an eye to finding the best ways to meet those needs. Our goal is the development of liturgies that join with the sermon in providing pastoral care.
