I performed a vocal recital as part of my final requirements towards my Music Education degree and developed an additional program including research on the works I performed. The program consisted of biographies for composers Haydn, Schumann, Fauré, Obradors, and Beach, additional context on specific songs, and translations of songs not sung in English. I created this program in order to provide more detailed information for audience members who were interested in further enrichment or had particular curiosity for any performed works. This recital and collection of original sheet music represent the culminating work for senior Music major (Contemporary Styles and Practices concentration) Jeremy Lee at Loyola Marymount University. The program features a selection of musical compositions that encapsulate different styles, genres, and unique compositional devices. Pieces also utilize a variety of arrangements and mediums, including compositions for multiple instruments and for film. Program notes for the included selections describe the historical influences and/or the personal stories and inspirations behind each piece. Performed live on April 21st, 2022, in Murphy Recital Hall.

Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) paved an unconventional path to become a composer. Born in Venice where his father, Giovanni Battista was a violinist at St. Mark’s Basilica, Vivaldi was not trained to be a musician, though it is clear that he studied violin at a young age. Instead, he studied to be a priest, and was ordained in March 1703. In September 1703, Vivaldi was appointed maestro di violino at the Ospedale de Pietá, a Venetian orphanage for girls devoted to musical training and performance. Over the years, he was promoted to successively higher ranks, culminating in his appointment to the …
